Homeless man who fled cops now charged with enticing a 13-year-old minor

MASON CITY – An allegedly suspicious homeless man who ran from a hotel as police responded to a complaint has been jailed since May and now faces a charge of enticing a minor.

Police were called to the Quality Inn & Suites Hotel in Mason City, located at 410 5th Street SW, around 10:23 AM Friday morning, May 20, 2016. Police were told a homeless man was acting suspicious there. A sergeant was dispatched to that location and learned upon arrival that a subject, 31-year-old Brandon Dean Springer had ran from hotel before the officer got to the scene. Springer was wanted on warrants connected to drugs, theft and burglary.

However, Springer was soon captured and taken to the county jail, where he was booked in just before 1:30 PM that day. He has remained there ever since. He was booked in on additional charges of harassment and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Records now show that the charge of harassment has been dropped, but he will face a January trial on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

On a more serious note, in addition, a felony charge of enticing a minor has been added.

According to police, Brandon Dean Springer, on or about May 15, 2016 in Cerro Gordo county, did entice T.A.D., a child under the age of 13 or believed to be under the age of 13, with the intent to commit sexual abuse upon or sexual exploitation of the child, in violation of Iowa code, a Class C Felony.

Springer, who also goes by aliases, awaits a court date on that matter as he remains held on $10,000.00 bond.
