Corwith man bound his domestic assault victim with black zip ties, police say

GARNER, IOWA – A Corwith man is behind bars after police investigated a violent domestic assault in which he allegedly bound his victim with black zip ties and repeatedly beat her.

On October 11, 2016, at approximately 11:03 AM, the Hancock County Sheriffs Office responded to a report of domestic violence in the Corwith area. The report was relayed by the Kossuth County Sheriffs Office, which took the original emergency call. After investigating the matter, a Hancock County Deputy Sheriff arrested Randy Dann, 45, from Corwith, Iowa, on the charge of domestic abuse assault, an aggravated misdemeanor. The criminal complaint alleges Dann bound the victim with black zip ties and assaulted her repeatedly at their home in Corwith throughout the evening of October 10 and into the morning of October 11. The alleged victim showed injuries consistent with these allegations, and black zip ties were allegedly recovered from the Dann residence.

On October 20, 2016, the Hancock County Attorney filed a trial information containing one count of domestic abuse assault, a serious misdemeanor, and one additional count of kidnapping in the first degree, a class A felony. The court set bond at $1,000 for count 1 and $100,000 for count 2. The court ordered bond be posted in cash only and in the defendant’s name only.

The matter is set for arraignment on November 1, 2016, at 9:00 AM, at the Hancock County Courthouse.
