MASON CITY – A former Mason City man was fined and sent to jail after he assaulted a police officer for at least the second time.
Mason City police were dispatched to the Autumn Park Apartments at 780 South Pierce Avenue Tuesday night, June 28 for a smoke complaint. Officers arrived and investigated and encountered 44-year-old Jamie Alan Roggeman, who grew up in Mason City but now claims to live in Britt. As a result of his interaction with police, Roggeman was charged with disorderly conduct and assault on a peace officer.
Soon thereafter, Roggeman entered a guilty plea to assault on peace officer. He was sentenced to 14 days in jail and ordered to pay $585.25 in fines and court fees. In September, the charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed, but he was ordered to pay an additional $60.00 in court costs.
Roggeman assaulted a Mason City police officer on October 21st, 2012 at the Cenex gas station at 504 1st Street SW after police were called due to an intoxicated person at the business. He was found guilty of the assault charge and the public intoxication charge, sent to jail and fined.
Roggeman also fought police officers on April 26th, 2011 when he called police about what he believed to be a dead body in a river in East Park. The body turned out to be a basketball floating in the river. When authorities showed up and tried to arrest Roggeman for being drunk, he resisted arrest.
