MASON CITY – Two men allegedly stole a bicycle from the Mason City library today and were caught with the stolen property.
Mason City police say that two men were arrested Monday morning at around 10:00 AM for stealing a bicycle at the Mason City Public Library. Officers were notified that someone was tampering with a bike in the parking lot and found both men in the area. Cole Thomas Seglem, age 21 of Forest City was riding the stolen bike and Joseph Dean Andersen, age 28 of Mason City assisted Seglem in taking the bike.
Seglem was charged with theft in 4th Degree, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Andersen was charged with theft in the 3rd Degree; enhanced due to prior theft convictions.
Both men were locked up at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
Any chance some of you are perfect? Because neither of these young men thought, “I want to be an addict and criminal when I grow up.” Yes, they should pay the consequences however your barrage of ignorant comments won’t solve anything.
Try to excuse it any way you want. They are old enough to know better and made the choice to steal property that other people worked for. They are damn thieves.
Isn’t this close to the location where the house that got Raided for the massive amount of bikes were stolen from Ames, IA just saying how dumb would they have to be if the police are already watch in that area…

I’m sure Seglem’s grandparents are horrified by this kid’s crimes. It would be so frustrating to have a kid from a good family turn out like this.
You know it is pretty pathetic that every druggie in Iowa has to have a bike to ride or one for the losers that deliver for them. Kids can’t enjoy riding them without you stealing them. Adults like to enjoy them for exercise. You have to start walking!!
They steal bikes to ride because they have all lost their drivers license due to not paying their fines. We are caught in a trap. We take away their license to punish them, then they have no way to get to work to pay the fines, so they steal bikes for money and transportation, get caught and fined (which the don’t pay) and on and on.
Increasingly the goal of the criminal justice system isn’t justice but revenue.

Steal from others who work hard to support your lifestyle and choices, that’s the American way. Obviously the government assistance isn’t quite enough. But I bet you have a cell phone. After jail or prison if your not able to sit for a while because Bubba stole your virginity…I would recommend using public transportation
