Mason City woman guilty of domestic assault at homeless shelter

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman has been sent to jail after a violent domestic incident at a local homeless shelter.

Mason City police were called to the Northern Lights men’s homeless shelter, located at 307 North Monroe, on the evening of Saturday night, June 5, 2016 around 7:11 PM. Officers arrived to investigate a domestic incident that had taken place. As a result, 20-year-old Morgan Kathleen Mcmanigal was placed under arrest on a charge of felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation.

In July, Mcmanigal and her attorney Joel Yunek entered a plea of not guilty.  A few weeks later, in August, they changed her plea to guilty on a reduced charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault.  As result, a no-contact order with the vicim was extended until September of 2017. Mcmanigal  was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 28 suspended.  She put on probation for a year and ordered to pay $215.50 in court costs.

Mcmanigal was guilty of assault in 2015, and a charge of fighting/disorderly conduct was dismissed.  She’s in the county jail now, serving her sentence.
