Hundreds of pigs die in fire near Ventura

fireVENTURA, IOWA – A hog confinement fire early Sunday destroyed 2750 hogs and piglets.

On October 2, 2016, at approximately 3:17 AM, Cerro Gordo deputies responded to a large hog confinement building on fire at 7442 Balsam Avenue, rural Ventura. The building is owned by Luscombe Enterprises. A large hog confirement building containing approximately 250 female hogs and 2500 piglets was destroyed. There was no one injured.

The fire remains under investigation at this time, and no cause has yet been determined.

Assisting the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Department were Ventura Fire, Clear Lake Fire, and Gamer Fire and EMS.
