NEW YORK – This morning, Donald Trump told America to “check out sex tape” of a former Miss Universe that he fat-shamed decades ago after his rival, Hillary Clinton, brought her up in their debate this week.
Early Friday morning, Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump tweeted about Alicia Machado, a Latina former Miss Universe who Trump allegedly fat-shamed after she won the beauty contest but gained weight. Reportedly, he followed her to gyms back then in highly-publicized episodes and said things like “this is somebody who likes to eat.”
Machado says she was traumatized by Trump’s treatment and delved into bulimia and eating disorders, and his rival Hillary Clinton brought her up in last Monday’s first debate. Clinton told the massive audience that Trump called her “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping” among other derogatory names and that she was now a U.S. citizen who would be voting this November.
After the debate, Trump said “She gained a massive amount of weight…it was a real problem.”
Once the debate numbers came out from the mainstream media, basically declaring that Clinton won, Trump hit back via Twitter. In the early morning hours Friday, Trump tweeted “Wow, Crooked Hillary was duped and used by my worst Miss U. Hillary floated her as an ‘angel’ without checking her past, which is terrible!
“Using Alicia M in the debate as a paragon of virtue just shows that Crooked Hillary suffers from BAD JUDGEMENT! Hillary was set up by a con.
“Did Crooked Hillary help disgusting (check out sex tape and past) Alicia M become a U.S. citizen so she could use her in the debate?”
Following Trump’s barrage, Machado hit back later Friday, first saying “I will not be bullied or silenced” and then releasing the following statement:
“The Republican candidate and his campaign are, once again launching attacks, insults and are attempting to revive slanders and false accusations about rny life, in order to humiliate, intimidate, and unbalance rne. These attacks are cheap lies with bad intentions. This, of course, is not the first time the candidate insists on discrediting someone or insists on dernoralizing women, minorities, and people of certain religions through his hateful carnpaign. This is definitely one of his most frightful characteristics. Through his attacks, he’s atternpting to distract from his campaign, real problems and his inability to be the leader of this great country. When I was young, the now candidate, humiliated me, insulted me, disrespected me both publicly and privately in the cruelest way. The same way this happened to rne, it’s clear that throughout the years, he’s continued his actions and behavior with other women. Therefore, I will continue to stand on rny feet, sharing my story and my absolute support for Secretary Clinton, on behalf of all wornen — my sisters, aunts, grandmothers, cousins, women within the community. I want to thank all of my Latinas and those who have supported me and given me love and respect for my career, and as a hurnan being. I became a United States citizen because my daughter was born here and because I wanted to exercise my rights, among them, I wanted to vote. I will continue standing firm in my lived experience as Miss Universe and even stronger with your support. I’ve been so pleas. and honored by so rnany kind and heartfelt words. I’m focusing on my career and my work as a rnother, and I will continue taking positive steps for the Latino community. I will continue being an activist for women’s rights and fighting for the respect we deserve. I appreciate all your love and thank you again for your support.”
