Adams and O’Brien escape 8-man field for run-off election

MASON CITY – Three candidates made strong showings in Tuesday’s election in Mason City for a vacant city council seat, but only two will advance to a run-off election in December.

Andy O’Brien was the overall leader, according to unofficial results.  He had 1,428 votes.  Second-place finisher Paul Adams was right behind with 1,337.  Former councilman Max F. Weaver was narrowly left out of the run-off with 1,223 votes.  No one else had more than 140 votes.

@ Peter L, your being dumb. Right down there you say, the cops looks the other way on stuff Stevie Minert does. Right, they do. I seen where you say the same thing on the shit Todd Bloggett pulls. Yes, they do that for him to. Ok. So how come your going after them two saying they do illegal. If you think our Republatard sherrif will do any better then the PDs in Clear Lake or here in Mason, your crazy. If I was you I would defnitley zip it. Your own words. Do you understand.

@ Local, yes, you are right. Dead right I think. Peter is a fool. Goes on and one, bitching how the cops look other way, thinks he can keep egging on them two not pay. Cops I know, and a deputy to, they think hes a nut. He is one. Mr Potty pant’s gets a beat down, they will laugh. Maybe buy a couple round’s for them that done it.

Kevin…Kevin…hmmm, this rings a bell. You wouldn’t be the same Kevin on Team Baby Kill would you? Refresh my memory.

@ #340, you have it exactly right. Vigilantism is not anything I can stomach, but north Iowa has always had its share of vigilantes. I would not want these two gentlemen angry with me. Nor would I ever represent anyone who might ask me to initiate legal action against either of them. They play by their own rules, made possible by their money, connections, and (right-wing Republican) family influence. And as Peter said, the law looks the other way.

You so much want to turn this into a me vs Minerts or me vs Blodgetts, but the reality is I don’t give a shit whose name is on it. I’m not part of your N. Iowa pecking order mythology. I’m a political activist / candidate concerned with quality of life pertaining to our increasingly corrupt government…particularly the executive branch who fail to enforce loud tailpipe violators because of a subculture of monied interests and pseudo-patriot ideologues on par with Putin’s Wolf Pack. Blodgett is only mentioned because everyone threatens me with him constantly. If they are law abiding and stop selling/marketing products which annoy and harass the public, I’d never even think of them. But honestly it has gotten better since I’ve began my public awareness campaign. Riders are becoming mindful of their noise in residential areas. The Cops? No, they still look the other way.

@ Sue, we are so happy your boyfriend will tell Steve Minert about the awful things Peter L is saying about him and his dad. Minert’s are good people, Ron use to sponser our bowling league. Some body needs to put this big mouth Greek out of his misery. Makes us miserble he is still here. I will get my prayer group to pray real hard that he gets his butt kicked.

You and that prayer group. You’d better serve the public stuffing prayer beads up your ass live on the internet. Given that it’s North Iowa, you’re probably a blimp fat ass turkey drumstick chomper waiting for her Harley dude to return home from the line, so never mind. No one wants to see your ass. I’ll send a prayer in return though, since you’re so considerate of me to pray. My prayer is Ron Minert stops selling illegal aftermarket Screaming Eagle tailpipe alterations and informs his clients stock tailpipes on Harley’s are the ONLY ACCEPTABLE CHOICE.

hate to give it to you petey, but this one gave me a good laugh 🙂

Petey you got more balls then brains. Picking fights with Minert and Blodgett is not real smart Mr. Big Mouth. How do you know Minert sells illegal. Stevie knows people can shut you up real quick. May be if Stevie and Todd sees this, they will. I hope. Thank you to Sue for telling Stevie about these lies Petey is telling.

Hate to break the news to some of you, but Adams is not the 2nd coming of Max Weaver.

His ideals are probably closer aligned to AoB than Max coming from and working in a business background.

However, unlike AoB, he doesn’t have some special interest groups stuck in his back pocket that he needs to pay back after being elected.

Good, bad, or otherwise, I am voting for Adams.

What is so bad about that? I voted for Max but if it has to be a final showdown with Andy, I’d rather see the good guy be Paul than Max. Paul is a sensible middle of the road type person. Every single one who voted Max will pick Paul over Andy O’Brian. If Max would have prevailed over Paul, some of Paul’s voters could potentially have defected to AoB, making the outcome more difficult to predict. I think Paul will strike a good balance weighing the interests of his different constituents, and in doing so honoring the legacy of the great man he is replacing.

Paul Adams could beat Andy O, but Max would not beat Andy seeing that Andy got 32% and Max got 28% Andy already beat Max, I just hope the MC voters get another good Counsel member like they got when the elected Alex Kuhn.

you can not count out people’s 2nd choice meaning the people who voted for max but adams is their next choice or they voted for max but obrien is their second choice all depends which person adams or obrien have more of those votes and also there are the people who will stay home because their person are not in the run off and also last point in my opinion the key for both men are to get the 2nd choice vote and also get the people who voted for one of the other 6 people running to vote for them. that is just my two cents opinion, for what it is worth.

@ Shelly, stop giving advise to Mr. Lagios. A whole bunch of us would really love to see him go and pick a fight with the two you warned him away from. Probably shut him up for good.

My BF works for Stevie at the Harley, I will show him this. You better watch it Peter L.

Actually Steve and his Harley crew need to watch it. They are violating the law by selling and installing aftermarket tailpipe kits which turn an otherwise quiet Harley Davidson into a noise belching monster. The cops may look the other way, but I do not.

Lagios will end up in a alley with his legs broken and it is well deserved.

Hey does anybody know, is somebody that knows politics helping Mr Adams. I voted for Max but since he is out Paul Adams is the one gets my vote. But Andy, he has Bookie and the Chamber pigs and Hickey and Robin and them that put the bad guys in. The powers that be, they want O’Brien they did know how to put in them the greedy pigs. Alot of real big money will go in to this, we expect. Alot of good people over the years, they have lost on count of not knowing what to do. John Jashesky, he could of beat Bookie if he would of known how to do this. Anybody know.

@ Adams, that is a good question. I think it is very likely that Jay Urdahl is already trying to insert himself into this campaign. Urdahl sees himself as the chief Democrat of Mason City. It would not be like him to pass up an opportunity to weigh in and try to influence the outcome.

Your right on Urdahl. But Jay don’t do any work, just takes the credit. Jay we know was the one got Chris Watts beat last time. He got his old sugar daddy Gary Blodgett, mail out to every Republitard and Independent’s to, like we are. Doc’s letter, it says do not vote for Watts, you taxes will go up. I know, we got one. Gary was real sneaky, them letters went out at the end. So, it was to late for Chris to hit back. Listen up, Andy is a good man cares about our city. No we are not Republitard’s we just want a good man, to win this.

Yeah. Andy is a real good boy, with an IQ somewhere in the mid eighties. He will be real good to the powers that put him in public office.

Unless we the people make sure that does not happen.

Hopefully Max will endorse him and ask his voters to support Paul. Perhaps even offer him some insight in the political game – he masters it like no other.

These two guys that got more votes mastered the political game better then Max. We are friends with Andy’s mother in law. I think he will do a good job for Mason.

Karen is a great lady but that doesn’t make Andy less unfit to take Alex’s place. You know why his seat is vacant. Andy will not make any job on our behalf whatsoever because we will not let him.

The one comment on here from Peter L that suggests we need more “progressives” in city hall is revealing.

The Mason City Mayor and most members of the Mason City City Council are “progressives”.

Progressives/Democrats/Socialists have already screwed this country, state, and city up.

Progressives are the last thing we need. We need educated economic thinkers that know how to create money, wealth, and opportunity. Currently these are limited to the Elected Eleit, Wall Street, and Main Street Media.

Matt is correct when he says Peter L destroyed his own credibility!

Vote Trump 2016

And you destroyed your credibility when you stated “Vote Trump”.

It makes him a hell of a lot smarter than you.

Watchdog, City Hall’s definition of progressive and mine are entirely different things. The DINO’s calling themselves democrats are essentially no different than the RHINO’s so essentially they cancel each other out…Dems and Repubs are the same thing anymore. Real progressives would be closer to the Green Party and beyond. The Libertarian Party is more progressive than either Dems or Repubs. I’m socialist in that every human should be entitled to 1 acre of land. But that’s where it quits. I don’t think humans need anything after that. It’s your 1 acre to work or lose. But until we have that starting point, both arguments for or against welfare are moot.

@ Peter L, we agree, especially about these loud motorcycles that pollute our town with all their noise and they belch out that smelly gray smoke. But stop going after the Minert’s and the Blodgett’s. They get away with shit that we the people can not and will not, ever. Take it from me I know. The powers that be, they are in their pockets.

Hey Lap Dog…… Mr. Mayor and most of his power broker wanna be buddies are actually Republicans. You ain’t as smart as you think you is!

They are RINO’s

So are Trump supporters!

Bull Shit. They are smart.

“If you live in Mason City and you did not vote in the city election of 2013 or if you voted for the ‘dream team’ of Mayor Eric Bookmeyer, At-large Councilman Scott Tornquist, and Councilpersons Travis Hickey and Janet Solberg, you have no one to blame but yourself,” wrote John Stone, chairman of the Cerro Gordo County Democrats.

You also destroyed your credibility (if you had any in the first place) by saying “We need educated economic thinkers that know how to create money, wealth, and opportunity. Currently these are limited to the Elected Eleit, Wall Street, and Main Street Media.” If you think the elected elite, Wall Street, and the MSM create money, wealth, and opportunity, you are certifiable. Trump will change his colors if he is elected and do everything he can to ensure the 1% stay there. Once again, if you think he cares about the common citizen, ask him what he is going to do to create jobs. He will tell you remove the restrictions from business so corporations don’t have to follow rules. And if you think corporations have your interests as their main concern, you are wrong. Look at Mylan. Their CEO just told Congress she made $18 million last year and she didn’t know raising the price would be such a hardship on those who count on that drug. This is the Trump ticket.

Matt what happened to free speech? Comments posted on here that hurt your ego and you delete them. My prediction is that Nit will do as it always has done. Matt will act crazy and attack obrien and people will vote for him and he will win because most people who vote are not fans of Nit and its editor due to the lack of professionalism that he brings. The elections two years ago are a prime example of that.

It’s Matt’s site, and he can do whatever he wants to with it. “Free speech” means the GOVERNMENT can’t stop you from saying something, it doesn’t mean you can stop somebody else!

King of the dipshits

Yes, you are. The best thing that ever happened to Mason City is when we ran you out of town. Now stay away. You and your kind are not wanted here.

No you are! LOL

No love here for a shithead like you.

Jodee is a few years older than Andy.
She keeps his balls in her purse, poor Andy hasn’t seen his balls since the early 1990’s.

Andy wears the pants……. but Jodee zips them up. Ouch, be careful!

Paul Adams needs to Give Max Weaver a call and talk to him about throwing support behind him. Max can help him clean up in this election and I would think that Max would want to help…. Just my thoughts.

The BALLOT ISSUE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED IN TO!
Bookmeyers boy may have really won.

So a censor wakes up in the morning, sees my comments and starts reporting them to make them temporarily disappear. And this delusional asshole will go throughout the day believing themselves a good American. A good North Korean maybe…but American? Never.

@ Peter so your bragging on how you got 179 votes when you got beat out for the council at the lake, okay. Your really something, bet you think you are. Running again are you. No way you ever get in. We seen what you say about Ron Minert, you puke. You blame Ron for alot of bad noise he is not the reason let me tell you. We seen the bad things you put on here about Todd Blodgett. Why do you hate on him to. Listen you potty pants puke, if you would of got close, when you run for that Council why, the Blodgett’s would of made sure you would of not got on.

Plenty of my yard signs were pulled up and stolen or destroyed. Are you insinuating the Blodgett’s were behind that? I wouldn’t doubt they were. As far as the peddler of noisy aftermarket tailpipes…he’s his own brand of terrorist and destroyer of the peace. But your final comment is of most interest to me…”the Bodgett’s would have made sure you didn’t get on if I would have gotten close”. How’s that? The Blodgett’s can usurp the democratic process? Interfere with the vote count? Or do you suggest they are capable of intimidating voters, or perhaps even something more sinister…say STAGE A MURDER TO LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE? Poor Alex Kuhn. He never knew he was drinking with the devil.

Can somebody list why nObrian is not liked so much?

I don’t like him because he’s grammatically incorrect, and I do not trust people without good English skills. There/their, your/you’re, its/it’s…I’ve seen enough typos in his declared statements for me to realize he’s not the type of intelligent human being who should be making decisions. He needs to pick up an MLA style handbook and return to high school.

AoB is well known in the community, and while he is generally perceived as an OK guy, it is no secret that raw intellectual superiority isn’t exactly his defining feature, to put it mildly.

Between this, his pro-prestage stance, and his massive endorsement from the Mayor (who is a fairly controversial figure), various slumlords, and the chamber of commerce leadership , AoB struggles with a perception of being the Mayors puppet.

Considering that we’re holding this special election because Alex Kuhn had the integrity to stand up to the Mayor, Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the people of Mason City, and considering that he ended up paying the ultimate price for doing so, many of us finds it sickening that his seat could be filled by a voting proxy for the powers that got his predecessor killed.

Fortunately not a single one of the ~1200 votes for Mad Max is going to AoB and AS LONG AS WE GET GOOD TURNOUT in December, Adams should be our next Councilman.

Please excuse my poor English. That is what sometimes happens when I post before reading what I wrote – looks worse than an AoB job.

He is in the camp with Bookmeyer and Robin Anderson. He is not very intelligent. He can be swayed easily and his wife wears the pants in that family. If not for her parents they would be living just like everybody else. Feels superior to others and would make every decision based on what Bookmeyer, Solberg and Hickey would do. There is so much more, but that should give u an idea.

So please tell us more about her parents from your perspective. I dont have deep roots in this community and dont know all the familial nuinances.

Her parents are Ron & Karen Knudtson. They’re both realtors and I believe she also does income taxes. Seem like nice people to me but I’m really just an acquaintance.

They are nice people..they just happen to have very deep pockets and pretty much pay for the standard of living to which Andy has now become accustomed to. That also is another reason why he thinks he is a big shot. Big expensive houses, fancy cars..all the trappings ..and all that cannot happen on their type of income.

Thank you. When you have the family history piece it helps in understanding some of these dynamics. Like the O’Brien Moving and Storage story.

If the ballots were not uniform theN you KNOW this was a CROOKED HILLARY election FARCE.

Nice to see Max lose again. Maybe there aren’t as many dipshits in MC as I thought!

None of you damn business. You don’t live hear so STFU.

There goes a Mason City dipshit now!

You should know. We ran you out of town you P.O.S.

Ran me out??? LOL More like ran away from the dumpster fire that is Mason City. Enjoy your dying shithole

Don’t come back. You are not wanted here.

You can bet your sweet ass that Bookmeyer, Anderson and company will be concerting a great deal of effort & money in the next two months on a way to get O’Brien a win.

Thought you would like sleazy since you outed yourself as “taking pleasure” – another day of being sweaty!

SO much for “We’ll remember this!” — They forgot already.

BALLOTS? Please explain why different?

Special City Election….

Can’t wait for bookmeyer to screw you! Will happen. HAAAAAAAAAA.mean time keep sucking on his…..LIES. Do the numbers also. Weaver NEVER LOSES. HAAAAAAAAAA

I don’t believe people who say they vote for someone really do. These numbers don’t support it for some.

Paul will be fine and a step toward a new council. We can vote the Mayor and others out next and I hope Max will run again. Vote for Paul in run-off and continue to clean house.

Vote Adams. There will be more elections, we can get the rest of those fools off the council.

Way to go Mason City… 22% voter turn out. Wow, pathetic. I guess everyone of you others were at home crying over your computer keyboards about the Banjolina break up or watching your DVR’d episodes of Big Brother.

HAAAAAAAAAA! Bookmeyers guy didn’t win!!! And he PAID people, now that’s funny. The number O’Brien got was the very most he could get, same number book got in mayor election. If the others would back off their egos max would have had it no doubt.

Max you are the best, everyone knows it. I like that you had Bookmeyers blood pressure up for the duration of this yet another fiasco. Let’s face it you took down and told the truth about a billion dollar corporation and our current council. You don’t need no stinking title to do what needs to be done in this city. Thank goodness.

if he is the best why didn’t he win

To be fair, the people who voted for Masson, and the 4 others who received 100 votes or less would probably have voted for Weaver and he would have won. As I stated, NIT should have done a better job winnowing the pool to focus support on Weaver as a strategy. Too many cooks/crooks in the kitchen cost him. But to be honest, the electorate of Mason City / Clear Lake aren’t worth presenting yourself too. They have fixed values based on who they perceive to be “fine upstanding business people”, and they sorta like to be violated by way of their backends by con men posing as Christian Family Men. It’s the dumbest thing since boxed rocks. Just get out of that town and leave it to its own devices. Closing off a street to drink beer or hear shotgun blasts is a novelty, and doesn’t mean your town is healthy or progressive.

What’s up with the ballots all different? Names in different order on each one? Bookmeyer have anything to do with that? And who did the counting? Word on the street is money was involved. Let’s find out!!

There are always a variety of ballots with the candidates in different order. People toward the bottom of the list get fewer votes because they are lower on the list. It’s not an attempt at fraud.

I asked someone the other day “when do the good guys win or prevail ?” They answered “In the End”. I am comforted to know the end is going to be eternally ugly for some, you know who you are.

I received 179 votes with only 19% voter turnout against the establishment favorite in 2013. Not too shabby when you compare it here. Remember what I said about consolidating candidates. Had this been done, Max Would have made the runoff. Now you are faced with essentially 2 of the same coin. You missed your chance, and the City of Mason City continues to be an establishment town lacking any real progressives at City Hall. I’m starting to think that NIT has zero influence on policy in this town.

179 votes? You wish.

Yep, it’s true. Check the Secretary of State website or search old Globe Gazette election results for 2013. I did better than 5 of the candidates here. Fact.

179 in a two way race versis this race, you got spanked badly, period Peter

Here’s the deal PETE the 178 of us that voted for you did not know much about you when that election was held. Now we all know what kind of a nut you are and there’s no way you would get even close to 179 votes if that election was held today. Don’t mean any harm it’s just the truth.

I would get more votes next time around. People would understand the wisdom I possess, and my dedication to protecting quality of life. I was victim to a smear campaign launched right here on NIT. My mistake was ever getting involved with NIT. It was poison. I made a mistake because I like to communicate. But that’s water under the bridge. Despite your views on me as being whatever it is you think I am, the intelligent people out there know that I’m smart and I would be an excellent councilman. But you are only as good as the company you keep and it would do me no good serving in a council that is dominated by human beings who just don’t get it. It’s time to just let these little hamlets rest. Treat them like Fukushima nuclear accident zone. They won’t be usable for hundreds of years. However certain issues such as noise pollution and harassment are timeless and must be addressed no matter who is in city hall. That’s a fight that I’ll never back down from.

You choose to forget how the anonymous trolls on your NIT badgered and belittled with no accountability on your part. You encouraged it because you profited from it. What I endured was beyond what any mere mortal could endure. I took on your entire subscription base and beat the living piss out of them. It got so bad you had to start handicapping me…even with both arms tied behind my back I whooped their asses. What I showed you was my perseverance and grit in the face of bullies and cowards.

Had you allowed me free reign and not censored me as terribly as you did, the outcome would have been different. You programmed it to degenerate into an outcome your alt-right crowd could accept so they wouldn’t flee your website. In my prime I was like a Gladiator wiping out all your best fighters. Only until you beat me down consistently and bloodied me like a poor defenseless bull could your weakling matadors thrust spears into me. Bloodied and tattered, and I still fight on. What you need to be is ashamed for what you’ve done. You’re a shameful cowardly fighter.

By calling my ideas and work “lunacy” shows that you are not really a change agent but merely a 3 ring circus manager. You’re “just intelligent enough” to exist in a very shallow pond. My objectives were very specific on NIT and to a large degree I’ve achieved them. No true intelligent writers will ever waste their time on your site, as my experiment showed them everything they needed to know about the readership of NIT. You are stuck with gossip, and small town b.s….and as we’ve seen by the elections…NONE OF NIT’S CANDIDATES will ever win.

@Peter. Matt did nothing to you. In fact, hes given you too much. You post in here continuously. And your posts are all about you, like you’re some kind of God or something. Your posts have not only shown your lunacy, but your narcissism. You think you know everything about everything. You, the man who doesn’t have the ability to hold down a job. Even a menial job at a convenience store. You openly tell people about shutting your pants, you compare things in “real life” to the stupid Matrix movie. You have accomplished absolutely nothing. You’ve come tributed nothing. And you’re how old? And now you’re playing the sympathy card, crying about your so called illness. The only illness you have is a mental illness. You have dug yourself this hole. You have made people hate you because you never shut up. Maybe if you would keep your keyboard mouth shut people would feel differently about you. And Matt or any of the readers here are not responsible for your failures. You’ve done it all to yourself.

Everything you’ve written is ad hominem. You’re entire existence is ad hominem against my person. You have nothing to say or write other than to persistently degrade and attack me. Your claims are pre-loaded. I don’t know who you are, because you write in a cowardly fashion, but clearly you have an internal schism, since you follow me around like you do. The narrative you wish to install is predictable and obvious: “lunacy, mental illness, narcissism, failures”…all words used in an attack pattern. Marquardt knows exactly what he’s done. He handicapped me to spare the likes of you from running and hiding. He gave his readers a sense of victory over “the big bad liberal”, when they deserved none. At first I was deleted, then my word count was reduced, then I was relegated to a room, all while my attackers were allowed to dance a cheap victory dance they never truly earned.

Peter L has only been judged on two things, everything he’s said and everything he’s done. If he had spent more time with the latter than the former, people might have a different opinion of him. He claims unfair venue for his lectures all the while knowing it is not for him to decide how much he can post or where on NIT. True insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You also didn’t “beat” anyone in anything just because you say you did. That is the logic of small children.

What a FREAKIN Nut Job Lagios is. He is mentally unstabel and should be locked up before he hurts someone or even worse, gets taken out by some well meaning citizen. It would be a crying shame if someone had to go to jail for taking out that piece of crap.

The terms you think in are both violent and unstable. The only danger to society is you and a couple dozen other malignant tumors lurking around NIT. Most of you are bigoted alt-right bullies, who have up until this point largely enjoyed your white rule. But the demographics have changed, and no amount of police murdering citizens in the streets will fight off the inevitable. When you are the minority, you’ll be treated better than the way you treated them. But we can always hope the true assholes such as yourself will be sniffed out and “taken out” by the new ruling powers…which will largely be comprised of blacks and hispanics. It’s destined, as karma says it must be. You are paying for your white superiority of the past. And it will be fun to watch.

With any luck at all you will not be around to see anything.

22.2% may be a record turnout compared to recent trends. Thank you to everyone who voted. May Mason City turn out to vote in even larger numbers for the runoff.

22.2 percent less than1/4 of reg.vote, you would of thought it would of been more. The less then 25% has spoken. That is why you get what you get in Ole MC lot of boat rockers but yet they don’t vote.

I agree, voter turnout was not great.

With that said, I think I believe that most of the people that voted for Weaver and the others will vote for Adams in the next round.
Everyone that voted for O’Brien is about all that he is going to get.

I do not think weaver people will vote for Adams because they are the type of people who only want weaver and they can not have him they will stay home that why andy o will win

Balls. My entire family voted for Weaver and you can bet your behind we’ll be there on December 6th. I’m disgusted by the result, can’t wait to send O’Brian packing in the next round

I can’t even believe voters let O’Brien get this far!!! Mason city better get their shit together n quick O’Brien is something you will Regret GET YOUR CITY BACK !!!! You already have a B.S. council don’t make it worse DUH!!!!

In the best of all worlds O’Brian would have been shit canned today, but this is really the second best scenario. Most Weaver voters WILL show up and approximately 100% of them will vote for the guy who is not in Bookies pocket. Like said earlier those votes are all O’Brian is going to get, unless we the people get complacent, Adams should be able to come through in the end

You do not believe Weaver people will vote for Adams in the run off? What are you crazy! Although disappointed that Max did not make the run off Mr. Adams will make a fine city councilman and every Weaver voter that I know is now casting their ballot for Adams in the runoff. We will band together and do what’s right which is to keep O’Brien out of office
