Malfunctioned dehumidifier causes Clear Lake house fire

CLEAR LAKE – A malfunctioned dehumidifier caused a Monday morning house fire in Clear Lake.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 1208 6th Street N. for a reported house fire Monday, September 5th at approximately 9:52 AM. The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 3 Engine companies, 1 Command Vehicle, 1 Ambulance, 18 firefighters and 2 medics.

Upon arrival, the CLFD confirmed there was light smoke in the basement of the home and all residents had safely evacuated. CLFD made entry, located the fire in a utility room and extinguish it. The CLFD then began overhaul and vented the house. Damage was estimated at around $10,000. There were no working smoke alarms in the house. The cause of the fire was a malfunctioned dehumidifier. The CLFD was on scene for approximately 1 hr.

The CLFD was assisted at the scene by Ventura Fire Dept and the Clear Lake Police Department.
