MASON CITY – A broken water line to an upstairs toilet caused water damage at the Cerro Gordo courthouse this week.
According to Administrative Officer Tom Drzycimski, a pipe that feeds a toilet on the west side of second floor broke sometime early on the morning of August 28.
“IT staff responded to an alarm sent by the UPS unit at just after 3 AM. The broken pipe was found at that time and the water shut off,” Mr. Drzycimski said. “Water made its way into areas of second floor, first floor (including the server room), and the basement. Water got into the main UPS unit, which is serviced by Eaton.”
Mr. Drzycimski said clean up and damage assessment has been going on since.
“Although 6 employees have had to be relocated in the Courthouse, there has not been any disruption of services and it was pretty much business as usual for all county and state offices,” he explained.
Clean up will continue through the weekend, NIT is told.
“The insurance adjuster will return early next week to assess the damage more closely after things have dried out a bit more,” Mr. Drzycimski said.
