Officials say they are super-chlorinating the pools.
“City officials were notified this evening by the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health of individuals who had symptoms prior to swimming at the Mason City Aquatic Center. We immediately closed all pools at the Aquatic Center and began the process to elevate chlorine levels,” said Brian Pauly, Recreation Superintendent for Mason City. “We will hold elevated chlorine levels to cleanse the pool of any bacteria before re-balancing pools back to safe levels of chlorine for our patrons.”
Pools are expected to reopen on Saturday, August 20th at 1:00pm.
Earlier, Brian Hanft of the Cerro Gordo public health department told the city that “due to confirmed cases of cryptosporidiosis of children that have been in the Mason City Family Aquatic Center in the past week we require that the pool be hyperchlorinated per CDC guidelines for a diarrhea’ incident.”
He sent a guidance document from the CDC on proper chlorination procedures.
We here in Mason City shouldn’t feel like hay seeds. We don’t have to go to Rio to find polluted water.

Maybe next season, keep the pool off limits to North Enders. Than future situations like this can be avoided.
All it takes is for a duck or goose to walk around on the pavement by the pool or go in the water. It doesn’t need to come from human or dog feces. Yes I know geese have rights. Goose lives matter.

This is a parasitic disease and is spread through poop. Very hard to kill and lives in the intestines of humans and animals. Causes you to have severe diarrhea. For them to clean the pool, he would have had to poop in that pool. Me personally, I’m going to a different pool until next year. This is why you buy your own pool and you don’t let white trash parents bring their kids to your pool and poop in it like a giant toilet bowl.

Did Peter poop in the pool?
No. But society needs to understand that the modern version of the toilet is a piss poor design that humans (particularly kids) are averse to using. You need to provide incentive for kids to halt their fun, climb out of the pool and use the boring conventional toilets. Kids reason “it’s all wet anyway”, and it feels good to obtain instant relief. It shows us humans aren’t meant to hold anything, and it’s animal abuse to train your dog to hold it all day while you’re at work or school. The bladder muscles should be atrophied. That is the preferred, relaxed state of being.
How do you then justify keeping a gerbil in your asshole all day long? That to would be animal abuse.
