Council candidate O’Brien sounds off with his support of Prestage pig plant

The following piece in support of the failed Prestage pig plant was posted in April by At-Large city council candidate Andy O’Brien:

Prestage Farms, why I vote for Jobs and economics. . What if works, What if we grow as a community ? What if the schools have to change, be diverse, hire more teachers, pay better or adapt? What if we open our cities to growth of diversity and change? As a child of Immigrant grandparents and entrepreneurs, I remember the stories of hard work and risk to make a better life for all. Living together to serve each other rather than its all about me. The upside is to great not to try to make North Iowa better. Low paying jobs, Yes there are going to be hundreds that start out at 12.50- 13.00 and hour.. Thats were they start, they will have to adjust that because most manufacturing in the area is above that, workers have to start some wage. What about Management, HR accounting and the hundreds of administrative jobs at $30-90K no one is talking about those.. Lets talk economics, Where did you start in life? Why did you leave them? Better pay, better benefits? Some are blessed by working for a corporation that’s payroll isn’t totally effected by community support. Most of our cities employees are. I am an independent business owner, I have been all my life. I don’t go to work I don’t get paid. I work with hundreds of businesses and employees that are affected by private funds (people) The impact of having a growth allows every business in North Iowa grow, pay better and to hire more people. Many are standing up in fear and hate on all the problems it may cause, that haven’t happened.. Most of these same people were against the casino, the distribution center and the recycling plant..and all of them are located in other community’s and thriving but not here in Mason City . I agree there are going to be issues, but non are true until they actually happen. Risk, What if it affects our town? No risk, No reward. We as a community have to stop looking for all the problems in this and work together for a solution for it to work.. The reason most other companies look right past North Iowa is because of this type of behavior from 10% of our population. My vote is for overall growth for North Iowa.

THIS shows you the O’Brien, who is still looking for his place in this world (bookie clone), should not be a viable candidate.

Prestage was voted down TWICE… The PEOPLE don’t want it. Move on.

Vote for WAVE. Weaver against virtually everything. Nothing will change but Max does his homework.

The guy has serious grammar / English problems. All it takes is a few moments with a Grammar Handbook or Style Guide, and he could work through some of these common junior high school mistakes. To / Too Your / You’re Its / It’s . I wouldn’t cut down someone’s English unless they were trying to be an At-Large City Council member. It’s a sign of ignorance to not understand the English language very well.

Which is most important, the message or the font in which it is written?

If you have something important to say, your need to be able to express it in a reasonably eloquent way, or your butchered language is going to distract the reader to the point where the message is lost. No harm done here though, as not even William Shakespeare himself would have been able to package these incoherent platitudes into something remotely convincing.

You may want to look up the definition of font.

You may want to try to see the point I was making. People who rent glass houses in other counties shouldn’t give mortgage advice.

Don’t be so hard on this guy’s errors. This is the kind of guy Bookie wants on the council, another council member he can control with his super mind powers.

You are a idiot,is that clear enough for you.Don’t you live in your mother’s basement.Ya!you got all the answers don’t you.So smart get a REAL job and quit living of others REAL money you loser.

Well he does have all all the right answers and when you live in
mom’s basement you get free cable. I’ve heard about these so called mind powers influencing city council members, that’s a scary thought, I think that needs some investigation.

Sad and true – You must be a moron – Are you saying Trump is not taking a stand for a better America ? You must be listening to the demorats too much ! Wake up! Smell the pesticides and stop drinking that grape kool-aid put out by the clinton foundation.

looks like the field of candidates has just been cut down

No kidding! I wasn’t sure about Andy as I had heard mixed things about him. I’m glad this post was dug up and posted for people to see – I’ve made my mind up

Yes it was in April, hope the guy does not get voted in.

Don’t see a date on this letter, is it current.

What, they are revisiting the anti life pig factory mess, why.

The nay votes were correct in how they voted against this!!

Never mind the lack of intellectual merit, this piece was clearly crafted by an illiterate imbecile. Did O’Brien really write this?

Yes, sadly Andy O’Brien did write that.

I have interacted with Andy in the past during various meetings.
To say that he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, well, that is being generous.

The facts fromother cities proves this was not a good idea. He must be a word twister like the bitch Clinton.

In five or ten years after this plant is up and running lets just see how it has impacted Wright County. Lets compare crime rates, social programs numbers reduced school lunch program and school ranking along with how it has helped wages and housing to increase with today to then. That will prove if this plant was a boom or bust for the community.

do not forget to count how many new hog confinements that will be build in cerro gordo county being close to wright county. I beleave it will be open season for prestage to build hog confinements in cerro gordo as pay back. and with limited state regs cerro can not stop this from happening.

Won’t be voting for Mr. O’Brien after reading this. So much for his statement about listening to the people. Prestage was not wanted my the majority of the people in this area right or wrong that’s the facts and the people should have the right to determine what is going to come to town especially when it will have a huge impact on our quality of life in a negative way.

Only 10% of the truly loud mouths in Mason City were against it. The rest of the people who work for a living were for it.

How’s life over in lala-land? Seen any pink unicorns lately?

You are deluding yourself. If Prestage had been voted on by all the citizens of Mason City instead of three councilmen swayed by the vocal minority they would be breaking ground for the plant here right now.

Look. The reason us opponents demanded a public vote on the matter from day one, is not that we were better Christians than all you proponents who venomously opposed such a measure – even after you lost the city council vote.

The real reason is that we knew, and you knew, that two thirds of the town opposed the plant and one third favored out, and no PR campaign in the world was going to change that.

Cheers

Ha, Ha, Ha-you are delusional.

You keep telling yourself that lie and maybe even you will believe its the truth. The majority of working people and all other citizens of Mason City were against this plant and they were right.

This guy supposedly coaches businesses. He can’t even put a coherent sentence together!

That “ActionCoach” thing is a franchised scam.
Just look into it and it’s founder Brad Sugars.
Pretty much a snake-oil gimmick looking for suckers

For a self described “Leadership Expert” his post is stunningly shallow and superficial. He appears to have no understanding of the complexity of this issue and there is an absence of critical, original thought. Just rehashed talking points very poorly communicated. Mason City……… we can do better!

Amen.

After reading it, I understand a little better some of the reasons that some people wanted the processing plant. However, I don’t think the risk here was worth the “reward”. And, if Prestage was according to Mr. O’Brien going to hire hundreds of administrators “What about Management, HR accounting and the hundreds of administrative jobs at $30-90K no one is talking about those.” that would be amazing. Hundreds of administrators for 2,000 employees? Wow. Prestage would not be in business long if that is how they hire.

Really sad when someone who’s running for our city council can’t spell or use proper grammar & punctuation. Where was he when he was supposed to be in English class? Am I nit-picky? You bet, when it comes to someone we’re supposed to look up to.

We all look down on a snob like you.

Reading that letter gave me a headache, as it would any educated person. Was he drunk when he wrote it, too lazy to care about proper writing techniques, or is he simply an ignoramus? He should have put forth some effort into something that will leave an impression on voters. It’s common sense.

I’d “look up” to the author of this letter about as much as I “look up” to the lady that pretends to represent me and the rest of my ward. They seem to be on a similar cognitive level, and I am appalled that he thinks himself worthy of walking in Alex’s shoes

Here is and example why you should vote for Andy Obrien, he is pro economic development.

He’s also pro smelly hogs who would have threatened our water supply and our way of life.

Bull Crap-You are just the type of person he was talking about. You know nothing but think you know it all. You are one of the people who has destroyed our city, and, you probably don’t even live here.

could be right, may be wrong? At least he had the courage to take a stand.
More than our National candidates
