Max Weaver: “I will be a candidate for city council”

Max Weaver

MASON CITY – Max Weaver confirmed Monday evening that he will be a candidate for Mason City council in this September’s election, should the contest be formally approved.

Tuesday night, the Mason City council will consider an election for a vacant at-large seat on the city council. Should that measure be approved, the election would be held September 20, a scant 7 weeks or less from now.

As this election is likely to be approved by the council, setting the stage for a short campaign with major implications, NIT reached out to former long-time councilman Max Weaver to measure his interest in his former seat. Mr. Weaver, who served 12 years on the city council, was extremely active in recent months in the process of helping to defeat a slaughterhouse city hall had earmarked for the south side of town.

“I will be a candidate for city council,” Mr. Weaver said, when asked if he would run in this proposed election.

“I think now, after all that’s happened, the citizens of Mason City are ready to elect someone they know will have their back. There’s never been a trust issue with Mr. Weaver,” he said. “If I’m elected, I’ll be there for them, rest-assured.”

Mr. Weaver said he was glad to hear the news that city hall would not be appointing a person to this vacant seat, but instead, would likely choose an election.

“It’s the right thing to do, the fair thing to do,” he said.

We gotta get Max in there. He’s the only candidate with the balls to stand up to Bookmeyer and others who are largely responsible for the death of the previous seat holder by means of ongoing harassment. Unlike the other candidates he has to answer to no one and no special groups.

So if Max is a “shit disturber” and you are disturbed, that would make you shit.
Sounds right.

Ha, your incorrect use of grammar is indicative of the fact that you are indeed a dumbass.
Your comments are much like that of the resident idiotic old coot that frequents here.
He too is a fool to be laughed at, just like you and your feeble attempts show some sort of intelligence.

You all can’t really come up with anything in poor decision making from max.our city representation should have different options brought to the table no matter. Anti Max people are worried what he will find out or he just irks you. He certainly isn’t stupid, you are stupid if you think that. Let’s not forget what has gone here lately. Crystal clear there is major problems with the council/mayor. Shame on them . Has Bookmeyer not been humbled yet? The tragedy on his watch?

I see that Joshua Masson who ran for the Third Ward council seat last year has entered the race.

So as of now:
Max Weaver
Andy O’Brien
Joshua Masson

And you my Urban Development expert, pi$$ed away an entire summer, (more like a few weeks) constructing a toxic tire city. Your vulcanized monument will live for centuries and foul the land long after you are gone. So tell us sir…how did that work out for you? When is your “break even” point in the harm you have done?

Here we go again….(sigh). The Earthship concept is well established all over the world as the most super efficient, secure housing on the planet. The tires have all been dug up and recycled. The land is all leveled and as it formerly was…minus some grasses and trees. The goal was noble…but your stupidity and adversity pooh pooh things you cannot understand. My mistake was trusting a homeless psycopath whom i sold the back acre to. Had the deputies done their job, the psycho would have been arrested.

One thing on Max’s list of accomplishments would be helping dodge the Prestage bullet! He spearheaded a campaign to keep them out of town, and succeeded. Prestage would have been the nail in our coffin!

Max’s record of public service often comes across as self serving. He is well informed but very polarizing and divisive. Max seems to do his very best work when grandstanding in front of the camera. He’s the star of his own reality show.

So the dummies come out again. You haters are so afraid of max. Your lies exposed and major corruption . Did you not see what the mayor did to us during prestage fiasco, of course being of the same shade it makes sense. Same begets same.I believe Alex Kuhn would absolutely approve of Max Weaver to continue the honesty and logics of his seat.

Alex Kuhn was a true public servant who did the right thing despite tremendous pressure and incentives to ignore his constituents. I think all of MC understands this now. I have faith the community will hold some accountable this election at the ballot box.
My hope is we find candidates that reflect Alex’s commitment to representing all.
I like Max, but he comes across as a bully and I felt he hurt our chances with the target distribution center and other developmenrs. In fact, I recall him saying that MC didn’t have the labor base to support all those $15+ per hour jobs that are now in Cedar Falls. Had we been able to land an employer like that, prestage never would have been considered.
Max has lots to offer, but I think the days he represents the city should be over…let’s see who else comes forward, Mason City can finally move forward if we get this election right.

Target actually chose Cedar Falls because of the 100,000 people living in the cedarloo area to pick employees from. Not to mention Cedar Falls had a business offer no other community could afford. Mason City was never really in the running for it. Just sayin, maybe know what you are talking about first.

Bull-I was there and heard Weavers comment when he said we didn’t have enough people for Target. They lost interest in Mason City after that. Get your facts straight.

HA, Mason city wasn’t even in the top five picks. Everyone was there, Mediacom has been broadcasting city council meetings for fifteen years. Max was against it, but Mason City wasn’t even seriously considered, never had a chance to compete with Cedar Falls. Max WAS for looking into the Toyota parts warehouse and everyone else on the council shut him down out of spite. Thats how they play games.

Regardless of where MC was at in the running for target, Max was against it and he was wrong. I don’t want to give him a chance to poo poo a good opportunity. A large employer willing to pay is always welcome here. Labor will follow the money and weak, low paying business will leave if Max was right that there aren’t enough workers. The tax base of a new business needs to be considered. Why would MC be in the running when you have an outspoken council member speaking against it? Name an employer Max helped bring to the community during his many years of service…are there any?

Max is a good man and a good advocate for many…but we need to attract better wages and better industries to the community and I am not sure he is the guy for that.

you are right about max not bringing any bussiness when he was on the counsil and also shoot down any good idea but we had our chance with prestage and we all know what happen with that now before you say they were not good wages i looked at prestage wage beakdown chart and even the person making 13.00 dollars an hour in a 52 hour work week would make over 40,000 dollars a year i know alot of people would like to make the alot of young people would i know that, and that just starting out the more years there they would get raises and make even more money or they would move up the latter there and more money I have worked in factory for over 20 years and every factory i have worked at there are overtime it just nature of the job and always will be

I think mason was in the running for one reason mason city is close to two major interstates the avenue of the staints and I35 sure other cities are also by major interstates but to say mason city was not in the running is wrong that one reason why prestage wanted to come to mason because of the closeness to though roads. and maybe other busines will be attracted to mason because that but i don’t think any bussiness will because of prestage

Good! we need a Pitbull on the council right now..until the lice are swept from the house, we need an experienced battler, to watch over these corrupt yahoo’s, that look out for the “circle of influence”, with no regard or respect for the community..Who else, but Max, can step in at this point, & hold them accountable?
You don’t have to love or like him (I do) ..he’s not looking for friends, but who else can stand their ground, against the interest of “the chosen few”?

WELCOME TO THE MAX SHOW. Max is one of the bullies. His delusional paranoia and Max attacks to manipulate people are the last thing Mason City needs to heal. His sing song before any statement, is designed to lull you into unthinking trance for compliance of his demands. His parting comments from the library meeting he called to heal the community after the no vote where something to the effect, approach the councilmen at church, approach their spouses, create division in the community. You see, Rick Mathes and Robin had tried to bring that dead pig back to life. Was he one of Travis Hickey’s “citizens” making unfounded accusations of an unsavory Choder/Henkel construction deal? Max will stop at nothing to destroy an opponent or a project. He will use anyone to feed his ego. Whether it’s Max, Rick, Robin, Eric, or Travis, Mason City will not support your bullying, nor will we vote bullies into office.

If only 1/2 of the nay sayers and whiners on this site would actually vote vs negative commenting bashing everyone else’s decisions online. Bitching and complaining poor me poor us be part of the solution not the problem. You just might get someone elected you believe could make a change, but it’s easier for you to sit at a computer and Monday morning quarterback everyone else’s decisions. Had you done so in previous elections you could have supported Matt and beat Janet didn’t happen, I see no change in this election either.

He was the main opponent against Vision Iowa and turned into a turncoat at the last minute and changed his vote. We had meeting after meeting against that downtown nothing and he was in full support. Then the traitor turned on the last vote and they got it in. How much have you benefited from that waste of taxpayer money. It was another elite project supported by Weaver.
