DES MOINES – Last week, Rep. Steve King introduced an amendment that would have blocked Harriet Tubman from appearing on the $20 bill. The amendment failed to make it to the floor for debate, but it is just the latest example of King’s ineffectiveness as a Congressman.
In response to Rep. Steve King’s failed amendment, IDP Chair Andy McGuire issued the following statement:
“Rep. Steve King’s divisive rhetoric and political posturing is nothing new. Like most of his outrageous proposals, this amendment went nowhere, which is one of the reasons King has been named one of the least effective members of Congress.”
“For King, a Congressman who has based his entire career on hate speech and xenophobic policies, to accuse President Obama of dividing the country is the definition of hypocrisy. The truth is Rep. King is more interested in grabbing headlines than in improving the quality of life for Iowans in the 4th district.”
“Iowa Democrats stand firmly behind Kim Weaver, who unlike King, embodies the leadership and compassion that Iowans in the 4th district deserve.”
Steve King was quoted in Politico, saying “It’s not about Harriet Tubman, it’s about keeping the picture on the $20. Why would you want to change that? I am a conservative, I like to keep what we have.”
Hope they put obummer or clinton on the dollar bill – cheaper than ?

Tubman instead of an American patriot is obummers idea of mocking America and its heritage – He will be appearing on the new 3 dollar bill in lgbt colors. What a shame his administration has become.

It is an anomaly that Jackson is on the $20 in the first place. He was against the idea of a federally authorized bank and fought during his presidency to dismantle the Second Bank of the United States which was the main bank of the government at the time. He has probably been rolling in his grave ever since his picture was placed on the $20 bill. Tubman is a good choice. She is a woman who helped change this country for the better.

US banknotes has always been reserved for former presidents and/or founding fathers. Harriet Tubman was neither and doesn’t fit the bill. What’s so controversial about that?
As much as I disagree with King, I have to agree with him this time. Why spend money on a un-needed change?
The US government frequently spends money to update / change our paper currency to curb counterfeiters. Remember all of the uproar against updating them in the past? No, me neither. So why all of a sudden is it a big deal for Steve King? Curious isn’t it.

I never had an issue with Steve King until he and Ted Cruiz tried and took valuable votes away from Carsen. Now this lame excuse about the $20 bill. I seriously can not wait to vote him out. This guy does not belong in congress and I’m a republican and very conservative. No morals.
