MASON CITY – A young pit bull dog bit its owner’s roommate twice in one day, leading to charges.
Mason City police say that on June 2, 2016, at 12:30 pm, a person reported her dog had bitten her 19-year-old roommate on the arm next door at 1526 North Penn. The caller was able to get her dog off her roommate and confined before police, fire medics, and animal control arrived.
The roommate was transported to Mercy Hospital by fire dept staff. The extent of the victim’s injuries are unknown but the wounds did appear to need immediate medical attention.
This was the 2nd time in 24 hrs that the dog had bitten her roommate. The first time was not reported to police. The dog, a 2 year-old pitbull, is current on its rabies vaccination but did not have a current city license.
The owner, Mariah Mahaney, 1524 N Penn, Mason City, was cited for No Animal License. The dog was quarantined by animal control for 10 days.

I have been around the dog for months !! He’s a really sweet dog in all truthfulness. Plays really good at the dog park and plays really good with small children. I’m my time being around him. He has NEVER been aggressive towards me or anyone around. Im not sticking up for the dog in anyway. But at one point that dog was my best friend. Its the owners have anger issues, in which also why I’m not around anymore. He is not an aggressive pup and I can assure you that 100%

I’m sure the police are very aware of the scum that are raising these dogs for the fight. Everyone knows we have an underground dog fighting league here in Mason. They meet in various places almost every weekend and night as long as the money is there. They meet in remote places and sometimes in the wide open. People don’t call the police because they don’t want to snitch and they are scared. Lots of the people who fight these dogs are straight scum bags and they don’t want people messing with thier dogs or money. This is a money racket and there are very powerful people behind this because drugs and females are also sold at these events. Dogs, drugs, and females equals organized Ganges and crime families. We have more stuff going on here than you want to even think. Just open your eyes and start asking people. That’s all your getting from me! I might be crazy but I’m not stupid!

God Bless that child and I’m certainly sorry for thier loss! I never speak ill of the dead and I don’t ever want to chastise them for thier loss. This is not personal attack on this family’s unfortunate incidences. This is directed to how they are now and about this dog hitting twice. I may be crazy but I’m not one to kick someone about a horrible loss of a child. Put the dog down and no more ares ice dogs, and clean up thier act!

Ok Mariah oh I’m sorry Angel, why wasn’t the dog registered with the city and why was the dog allowed to bite not once, but twice? After the first bite it should have been over. Your not food responsible dog owners. If you were, your dog would have been to obiedeance classes, you would have had it registered and you would have protected the roommate. No one I know wants to get bit by this or any other bread of dog. Owners responsibility and fault. Pay your fine, the hospital bill and I hope she files a civil suit against you for pain and suffering along with negligence. If I were a juror I would award at least $20,000

Dogs have a sense about people. I wonder what this roomate was doing to the dog or if they are a bad person. Dogs know the difference between good people & bad people. They are a great judge of character.

Owning a pet is a big responsibility, Vet care, socializing, and training. I wish people who chose breeds with the bad reputations like pitbulls took it more serious and took that extra step to train their pets to not act aggressively. If their pet is “difficult” I wish more would take the extra precautions to avoid situations that can become a problem. Just remember its always the pet owner that failed. If your dog has behavioral issues you either 1 train them or 2 avoid those problems.
