MASON CITY – Max Weaver of Mason City, a former councilman of 12 years, called on the Chamber of Commerce Board to overrule Director Robin Anderson and outright cancel Thursday’s secret meeting at the Park Inn Hotel on the Prestage Foods development “round 2” that excludes the public.

What Robin Anderson and the Chamber of Commerce are doing makes no sense at all. Robin Anderson has never been elected to city government, yet she has the keys to the front door of City Hall. Who gave Robin Anderson the authority to act in this way?

There are two things the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors can do to make this right in the community:
1. Immediately cancel the private meeting on Thursday, June 2nd at the Park Inn.
2. Take a good look at Robin’s employment status…it’s time.

My gut feeling is that Robin has been will be called up to the Chamber big league if she helps push this through.As she said..you little people just don’t understand.But I think we do.All Prestage really wants is the water resource.Research the Jordan aquifer and you will see that it does not need the added draw down pressure.That alone is enough for other communities to be concerned as well.Fresh water has a far higher price than sub living wage jobs.

des moines register has done several articles on the jordan aquifer for many YEARS now, highlighting an already exessive draw in north iowa due to ethanol production. no more scare tactis than you boot lickers being the majority. your fundamental problem is that there is simply so many more tax payers in mason city than there are realtors and slumlords. this is why you will never be anything but a bitter minority.
This time Weaver was man enough not to trash and attack Bill Shickels’ wife. His last blog was cowardly from dragging family members into this debate. Public officials are fair game, but hands off families Max.

With no Prestage being built. Here a look into the future of Mason City in ten years, and it is not good. Kraft with leave remember just alttle time ago they were talking about it. Curries/Graham will be alot smaller because material cost and also their work force is getting older and they do not have the younger workers to replace them. cargell the hospital will also be smaller due to lower population. empty retail space and down town closed for business fewer teacher due to low enrollment. higher property taxes, higher utlities bills. Instead of MC growthing with Prestage here to a population of 38,000 people it will be 18,000 people instead business looking at Mason city as a well-coming city it will be a trouble and dying city. first thing a new business will ask the corridor director is will we have the same problem as Prestage if he said I don’t know next thing they will say is i think we will look to another town. three counsel person who voted no and people against Prestage are anti growth, anti busness and anti Mason City.

Please let me agree with the majority, we need new jobs in Mason City. The only problem is if we take on a Prestage plant, we will get NO other offers from businesses to come here. Why settle for a 1 business with crappy jobs when the Chamber and EDC should go out and find several companies like McKesson. I believe the people of Mason City would be willing to spend the 35 to 50 million for companies that don’t decrease our standard of living but boost it. Let the original vote stand and let’s move on to bigger and better companies.
If this is a “secret” meeting it’s the worst kept secret ever. It is a “invitation only” meeting.Maybe it’s just me but I kinda get the feeling Max doesn’t like Robin.
