MASON CITY – A Mason City man who police say committed a violent domestic assault just a couple weeks ago returned to the scene and committed another assault.
Mason City police were alerted to a domestic situation Monday evening, May 9, around 5:02 PM. Upon arrival at the American Best Inn and Suites, 24 5th Street SW, they discovered a male subject, 23-year-old Corey Jerome Mays at a room there, in violation of a no-contact order with an alleged victim of a previous assault.
After an investigation, May was discovered to be in possession of marijuana and to have committed another assault. He was arrested on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault, possession of marijuana, and violating a no-contact order.
Mays was taken to the county jail and soon posted bond and was released.
Mays was charged with felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation back on the morning of Thursday, April 28 after a domestic incident at this same hotel. He awaits an appearance in court on this charge.
