MASON CITY – Nicole Hunter, 4th grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary, head sophomore volleyball coach and
assistant varsity boy’s track coach has accepted the position as Head Volleyball Coach for the
Mohawks this coming season.
Hunter, a graduate 2009 graduate of Creston High School, attended Southwestern Community College and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University, moved to Mason City in 2015 to begin her career as an educator in the Mason City Community School District.
While in high school, Hunter was a two-sport athlete in volleyball and track. She was a three-year starter and captain for her Creston High School volleyball team. Hunter is also the first female state champion for the Panthers. In 2009, she won the 100 meter hurdles in record time. During her time at Creston High School, Hunter received multiple academic and athletic awards.
Post-graduation, Hunter went on to play volleyball at Southwestern Community College (SWCC) for two seasons. While at SWCC, she received numerous recognitions for her athletic and academic accomplishments, including an All-American nomination. Following southwestern, Coach Hunter attended Iowa State University where she continued to be involved with athletics in the area of football recruiting. She worked for Iowa State Football as a student and later as a
Recruiting Coordinator.
