PANORA – Sophomore Chris Staudt shot an opening round 77 to lead the NIACC men’s golf team Sunday at the Iowa Lakes regional preview tournament at the Lake Panorama Golf Course.
NIACC shot a opening round 330 and are in seventh place heading into Monday’s final round. The Trojans also received a 81 from Joe Nordquist, an 85 from Zach Nicholson and an 87 from Sam Steinwand.
“I’m very happy for him,” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said of Staudt’s opening round. “I saw a lot of good things out of him.
“Chris played great. Joe played great and the other guys have another day to come back.”
The NIACC women are in fourth place with a first-round 377 on Sunday. The Lady Trojans were led by Savannah Lentz with an 85.
“Savannah played really solid,” Frenz said. “She was hitting the ball down the middle of the fairway. Her short game was solid as was her putting, which was good to see.”
Also for the Lady Trojans, Bailey Walter shot a 94, Lyndie Phillips shot a 97 and Carlie Eckenrod shot a 101.
“We just have to keep working and keep gearing toward the regional tournament,” Frenz said.
