Drunk driver leads cops on multi-county chase

FORT DODGE – An intoxicated man in a car who may have been violating a no-contact order was stopped by police before fleeing through three Iowa counties and crashing into a ditch to avoid stop sticks.

On Friday, March 25, 2016 at approximately 1:58 PM, the Fort Dodge Police were dispatched to the 200 block of 9th Avenue North for a possible violation of a no contact order. When the officer arrived, the suspect was outside of the callers residence in a vehicle. The officer attempted to wave the suspect over to investigate the no contact order violation but the driver refused and left the area.

At approximately 2:19 PM, an officer with the Fort Dodge Police Department located the suspect in the 300 of 5th Avenue NW. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Aaron Lee Jones, age 35 of Fort Dodge. While the officers were speaking with Jones, he sped off in his vehicle. The officers then began to pursue Jones. Jones led several officers through Webster, Calhoun and Pocahontas County.

Jones was taken into custody at approximately 2:50 PM at the intersection of county roads C-66 and P-19 in Pocahontas county when he drove into a ditch while trying to avoid the tire deflation devices that had been deployed at that location.

Jones was transported back to Fort Dodge and was booked into the Webster County Jail on the following charges:

Eluding Law Enforcement – Class D Felony
Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense – Serious Misdemeanor
Interference with Official Acts – Simple Misdemeanor

The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Pocahontas Sheriff’s Office, Manson Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
