Iowa man accused of ripping off little league funds

CAMANCHE, IOWA – State of Iowa investigators say an Iowa man was treasurer of a little league baseball club and proceeded to rip the organization off.

In November 2015, special agents with the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) began a financial investigation of the Camanche Junior Baseball League. The Camanche Junior Baseball league is a non-profit organization located in Camanche, Iowa. The DCI was requested by the Camanche Police Department as well as the Clinton County Attorney’s Office to conduct the investigation.

Michael J. McManus, 41, of Camanche, served as the Treasurer of the Camanche Junior Baseball League from 2011 until October 2015. The investigation determined that McManus misappropriated Camanche Junior Baseball funds for personal gain.

On March 14, 2016, Michael J. McManus was charged with theft in the first degree. Theft in the first degree constitutes a situation where a defendant unlawfully and willfully misappropriates property exceeding $10,000 in value.

This investigation was conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), with the assistance of the Camanche Police Department and the Clinton County Attorney’s Office.
