Gun suppressors approved by Iowa Senate

DES MOINES – The Iowa Senate approved a bill that expands the rights of gun owners, allowing them to legally possess or transfer “silencers”.

By a vote of 46-4, with a minor amendment, the Democratically-controlled Senate passed HF2279, a bill relating to possessing and transferring firearm suppressors, sometimes called “silencers”.

Gun rights owners touted the bill, which catches Iowa up with other states where the silencers are already legal.

The amendment in the Senate sends the bill back to the House – controlled by Republicans – for approval once again, after that chamber gave the thumbs-up last month.

Governor Terry Branstad is expected to approve the bill once it reaches his desk.

The American Suppressor Association said this week it “is very excited about the prospects of this bill becoming law” in Iowa. That group say suppressors offer several advantages, such as hearing protection, safer hunting, nice complaints, and accuracy.

“Suppressors reduce recoil, and help decrease muzzle flinch. These benefits lead to improved accuracy, better shot placement, and more humane hunts,” the ASA claims.

“Suppressors, also known as silencers, are the hearing protection of the 21st century sportsman,” the ASA says. “Despite common misconceptions, suppressors are not silent. They are simply mufflers for firearms, which function by trapping the expanding gasses at the muzzle and allowing them to slowly cool.”

Seems like spending extra money to make a motorcycle extra quiet. Who would want that?

Did you see all of those slimeball ANTI AMERICAN protesters in Salt Lake City — brainwashed by the slimy elite that has beeen destroying our country for decades? Half of the are felons -illegals – 500 million dollars these slime are spending to stop Trump –Going to be a hot summer. The king would like civil unrest so he could declare marshall law and there would be no election for years and he could continue his role as king george. Their control of the media makes them seem like the good guys – smoke and mirrors at its finest.

I saw it and I agree. It is not free speech, but is a attempt at suppression of Trumps free speech.

Your point is totally irrelevant to the gun suppressor conversation. And predictably our resident mental midget LVS chimes in.

Hi Peter.

Suppressors are expensive and are registered. They don’t last like people think. And are caliber restricted. Not much worth putting a $800 suppressor on a $400 pistol. And which gunsmith did you work with at gunfire David? Each one has a serial number. I don’t think it’s going to make poaching worse. By the way I am a ffl holder.

this was back when gunsite opened so I don’t remember his name, all i remember was talking to him about him being in the 82nd. It was called gunsite ranch back then, it’s gunsite academy now.

People think the worse about silencers because of hollywood, it’s just the ignorance talking.

There will be a serious increase in poaching

This law is about as necessary as a hunting season for mourning doves!

An alternative to the silencer is to take careful aim, stick the gun way up your and then shoot.

WHY, for legal purposes, would anyone need a silencer???

Well anyone that lives in the vicinity of a shooting range or hunting area will no longer be bothered by noise if shooters decide to use them. Less hearing damage while shooting alot.

All they are is a muffler. They don’t make any firearm silent. period. The number of of registered suppressors used in crime is (last time I check) 0. The number of illegal suppressors used in the last several years is 2. When something makes a 160 db sound a few feet from my head, Ill take all the help I can get to quite it down.

If you were at a gun range, wouldn’t you just have hearing protectors on?

hearing protection blocks all sounds. If someone runs down range and the cease fire command is given and you don’t hear it because you have your ear plugs in.

I can see why you were not allowed to join the real military.
You’re an idiot.

really huh, well let me tell you a story asswipe. I was on the army pistol team, we were at a competition in Illinois when this scenario happened. A colonel, active duty, ran down range to fix his target. the cease fire was given but a person from another active duty unit didn’t hear the command and kept firing. if you are saying that national guard is inferior to the active duty then there are quite a few people on here that will want to have a chat with you..

If Americans only purchased things they need, America would cease to exist

the silencer is usually below the front sights, at least all the ones that i have used have been. In the past I have actually made some.

Thanks for admitting to the felony.

Wasn’t a felony, I was living in arizona working for a gunsmith for the gunsite ranch.

Interesting. I have never used one. I wonder how you sight the weapon? It sure looks like it is blocking the front sight.

suppressor height pistol sights are common. Usually doesnt interfere with sight picture on a rifle.
