Iowa state patrol trooper resigns after “special treatment” during arrest

WILLIAMSBURG, IOWA – A now-former Iowa State Patrol trooper who resigned after he was arrested and his jail photo was not taken and he was not put in a jail jumpsuit.

According to a report from the Associated Press, 28-year-old Patrick Steinbach was an Iowa State Patrol trooper based in Cedar Rapids. Steinbach was arrested by the Williamsburg Police Department back in December of 2015 after he allegedly pounded an a female neighbor’s door. He was charged with first offense operating while intoxicated, court records show.

Steinbach, who played football for Iowa State, allegedly received special treatment, the AP reports. While in the Iowa county jail, officers there did not put him in a jail jumpsuit nor take his mug shot.

The AP says Steinbach has now resigned from the Iowa State Patrol. He has entered a not guilty plea and awaits a court hearing this month and a jury trial on April 5. A jailer involved in the booking process is no longer working for Iowa county, as well.

See story re “special treatment” for Mason City cop who was NOT CITED AFTER CRASHING HIS POLICE CRUISER INTO 2 PARKED CARS BECAUSE HE WAS “DISTRACTED”. Excuse but, I SERIOUSLY doubt a Citizen would not be cited. Plus his/her vehicle would be searched. Plus tested for drug and/or alcohol intoxication. I’ve heard of LOTS of cops getting busted for being under the influence and/or possession of illicit drugs and/or alcohol. Was THIS cop tested? Was HIS cruiser searched? Was HIS cell phone checked to see if he was texting and/or chatting at the time of the crashes?

Good points!

Wow! I’ve seen people who were not cops get the same treatment! Not a reason to resign. Has to be more. No one cares if they don’t take his mug shot and put him in a stupid jumpsuit.

now they need to investigate the special treatment given to the mason city police department
