Drunk man drives van through church door

MANCHESTER, IOWA – An Iowa man allegedly got loaded and drove his vehicle through a door of a church, police say.

Manchester, Iowa Chief of Police James Hauschild says that the incident happened on March 5, 2016 at 2:10 AM. An officer of the Manchester Police Department heard a loud crash and glass breaking on West Fayette Street in that town. When the officer arrived on the scene he found a van backing away from the West entrance into St Mary’s Church.

After the driver was subdued, an investigation uncovered he was intoxicated and drove his van off the street, traveled across the lawn and drove into the entrance of the church.

Police arrested Robert Eugene Stallings, age 42 of Manchester, Iowa on charges of:
– Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense (an aggravated misdemeanor)
– Driving While License Suspended (a simple misdemeanor)
