Police say Mason City man sent obscene material to child

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection to a charge of dissemination of obscene material to a child.

Police stopped a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Kevin Roy Lachapelle Thursday afternoon at the 400 block of South Taft Avenue. Lachapelle had been wanted on an arrest warrant since the previous day. Mason City police had brought a charge of dissemination of obscene material to a child – a serious misdemeanor – on March 1, leading a judge to issue the warrant.

Police tell NIT that on February 18, 2016, it was reported that Lachapelle had harassed a known adult female by phone. Lachapelle was cited for one count of simple harassment. It was later reported that Lachapelle allegedly sent a sexually explicit photo to a minor who received the photo. Police investigated the second allegation involving a minor and then applied for a search warrant to seize and search Lachapelle’s cell phone. On March 1, 2016, MCPD officers applied for an arrest warrant charging Lachapelle with one count of Dissemination and Exhibition of Obscene Material to Minors (serious misdemeanor). A judge signed the arrest warrant.

Lachapelle was taken to the county jail and held on bond. He appears to have been released, pending a court date.
