MASON CITY – When a judge issues a no-contact order, the judge means business and so does law enforcement, as a local couple found out Monday night.
A Plymouth woman, 29-year-old Ashley Joanne Dewaard was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault back on January 31 after an incident at her Plymouth home. She had alleged to police that her “ex” was in the home and refused to leave. However, law enforcement investigated and she was arrested and charged with first offense domestic abuse assault. A no-contact order was put in place by a judge, mandating that Dewaard have no contact whatsoever with the alleged male victim.
However, according to a police spokesman, Mason City police were alerted around 8:11 PM Monday night that Dewaard “was eating with the protected party of a protective order at a Mason City restaurant.”
Police went to Whiskey Creek, 1519 4th Street SW, “arrived, saw the two together, verified the no-contact order was still valid, and arrested Dewaard without incident.”
Dewaard was taken to jail Monday night and held there until Tuesday afternoon when she saw a judge. At that hearing, she entered a not guilty plea to the domestic abuse charge. She now faces a March 10 hearing for a new charge of contempt of court, which typically carries a 7 day jail sentence if she is found guilty. She will face a hearing and a jury trial in May in connection with the domestic abuse case.
This no contact order, does waste a lot police time from what I can tell… People that decide they like some person one minute. Then don’t like them, the next, and want the police there…. They should stay away from these people, in the first place and find someone decent…

Freedom of speech protects you from being arrested or charged with a crime. It doesn’t protect you from any civil suit Ashley may or may not want to file based on libel if anything on here was untrue and caused her financial or emotional harm. Did you learn that you can say anything and it won’t come back to bite you in the end in seventh grade?

He will take a 30K retainer from you and once he has that he won’t care if you lose so he will go through the motions and keep your money. You think that P/C crap is law and it isn’t. So if Matt wants to write the article and make comments, he has federal protection and rights. If anyone is harassing anyone, it might be you for trying to threaten him and others. Fact is, Ashley is a grown woman who had a NCO signed by a judge and she chose to violate it with a ton of witnesses watching her. She has been in trouble and it’s plain to everyone that her life is out of control. She needs help and you defending her is only delaying her from realizing this. Stop wasting your time defending her and start helping her come up with a solution to get her life back on track. Any suggestions, A.A.?

Get your facts straight about the whole court thing to.. I was not at court today for my no guilty plea.. I only seen the judge for a violation of the nco. According to my paperwork which is factual a trial date is to be set, that all depends on my lawyer and I.. so your trial date is pulled out of your ass. Along with your huge headlines.. there were several people seeing a judge today for serious pre trial release violations and drug charges.. but you chose the couple having dinner..
