MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was arrested in December for injuries he allegedly inflicted on a 6-week-old child has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.
Mason City police announced on December 18, 2015 that they arrested 21-year-old De’airreo Jerrid Cryer on two charges of felony C child endangerment with serious injury. The arrest was a result of a joint-investigation between the Iowa Department of Human Services and the Mason City police Department.
The victim, a 6-week-old infant, was transported to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with serious injuries. The alleged abuse took place on December 5 and December 17, 2015.
Cryer was transported to the Cerro Gordo jail and has been held there on $10,000 bond as he initially pleaded not guilty.
However, a written plea of guilty was entered by Cryer and his public defender on February 12. He had submitted a letter to the court on January 7. Details of the plea deal have not been released, yet. He could face up to 10 years in prison on each count.
Cryer will face a hearing in February 24.
