OSAGE, IOWA – North Iowa legislator Josh Byrnes won’t seek re-election.

Josh Byrnes represents District 51 in the Iowa House of Representatives. A Republican who favors Carly Fiorina for the presidency, Mr. Byrne describes himself as “Husband, Father, Friend, Educator, Statesman, Common Joe to Represent District 51”.

Last summer, Byrnes, a NIACC instructor and farmer from Osage, failed in his bid to become House Speaker, losing to the more-conservative Linda Upmeyer. He said back in August of 2015 that he “appreciate(s) that support and it sends a message that people want grounded leaders to represent them.” It was said that Byrnes offered a more moderate stance on some issues as compared to Upmeyer.

The Des Moines Register reports that Byrnes will “take over as general manager of Osage Municipal Utilities.”

Byrnes’ announcement opens the House District 51 seat; so far, no other candidates have stepped forward.

“I hope that whoever runs and wins that seat can continue that work of being an olive branch-type legislator and not a hack,” Byrnes told the Register. “You don’t get anything done for your district when you come down here and you just start toeing the party line. That’s not productive for your constituents.”

LarryVS I mean,

William, Larry has his pals Moe and Curly. Sometimes he hangs with Shemp!

They should have a road tax. It is there to help fix the roads and highways. The ones who are doing the driving should be paying it.You better be glad you don’t live in California like I do we pay a heck of a lot of road tax on our gasoline.

Yes, and most of it goes for your socialist, communist programs, not the roads. I lived there and your roads are not that great. It is your own fault for voting in the communists.

Oh LVS-It’s funny how any political person you disagree with you call them a communist. Just proves how simple minded you really are and it also makes me laugh! Thanks for the humor my friend.

Not your friend Mike. You are a A-Hole and I don’t have A-Holes for friends.

LVS, you don’t have any friends, perhaps a few people that tolerate you even though you’re such a dumbass, but that is about it.

Heck, you were so stupid & ignorant even as kid that they had to tie a pork-chop around your neck so that the dog would play with you.

If you had been born twins, you both would have died laughing at each other.

Sure he pushed through the gas tax that just gave the state mor money to waste. I have not seen a improvement in the roads around here. Glad the RINO is gone.

Absolute rino that would NOT have been re-elected after leading the gas tax hike. Turncoat to all north Iowans. Because of politicians like Josh is there any wonder there is distrust.
