Gov. Branstad appoints David N. May District Court Judge

gavel-justiceDES MOINES – Gov. Terry E. Branstad today appointed David N. May as judge to the 5C Judicial District. May was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Robert A. Hutchison.

May, 44, of Polk City, currently is in private practice. He also serves as a lecturer at the Annual Fire Investigation School for the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau and has served as an instructor at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. May received his undergraduate degree from University of Missouri – Columbia in 1993, his Master of Public Health degree from University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1995 and his law degree from Drake University Law School in 1998.

The governor thanked the District 5C Judicial Nominating Commission, complimenting them on two excellent nominees for the position.

“The two individuals sent to me for consideration by the Judicial Nominating Commission were excellent candidates, and both could serve as great judges, making this a very difficult decision,” said Branstad. “David May is an experienced trial attorney with an exceptionally bright legal mind and a strong work ethic.”

District 5C consists of Polk County.
