Man arrested after armed standoff at Clear Lake house

CLEAR LAKE, IOWA – A North Iowa man took a gun to a Clear Lake house and tried to get inside, firing the weapon, leading to a law enforcement response.

The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office say the incident took place at 18493 Finch Avenue in Clear Lake, early Saturday morning. At 3:17 AM, deputies and other law enforcment agencies responded to that address for a 911 call. The caller advised a man with a gun was attempting to enter his residence. The subject then began walking around the caller’s property discharging his weapons.

Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with 34-year-old Andrew Koenigs of Grafton. After a brief standoff, he was taken into custody.

Koenigs was taken to the Cerro Gordo County jail where he was booked for first-degree attempted burglary, going armed with intent, failure to maintain control, and failure to prove financial liability insurance. He is being held on $10,000 bond.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Mason City Police Department, Clear Lake Police Department, and Clear Lake Fire Department.

The property at 18493 Finch Avenue in Clear Lake is owned by Lorraine and Larry Hoffman.
