FORT DODGE, IOWA – An Iowa man police say is a licensed and properly-trained conceal and carry gun owner has shot himself, leading to a helicopter trip to a Des Moines hospital.
On January 29, 2016 at 7:28 PM officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department were dispatched to 29 N. 12th Street in reference to a male who had been shot.
Upon arrival, officers were able to speak with the victim and witnesses and were able to determine that the shooting was an accidental, self-inflicted shooting.
The victim was identified as Ricardo Matolban C Mack from Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Mr. Mack was transported to Unity Point Medical center where he was then flown to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where he is being treated for an accidental, self- inflicted gun wound.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the victim has had the proper training and paperwork to carry a concealed weapon.
Police say an investigation is ongoing.
