ALLISON, IOWA – The North Butler Community School District will once again provide the Summer Food Service Program to its patrons, North Butler School Superintendent Joel Foster announced today.

“Although the specifics of the dates when the program will begin and end still need to be worked out, it appears that we will be able to run this program in Greene at the JH/HS once again, and have tentatively qualified to bring this program to Allison at the North Butler Elementary School,” Mr. Foster said.

“We will distribute specifics for the Summer Food Service Program at both sites as we draw closer to the end of the school year.”

The summer lunch program will allow anyone up to the age of 18 to come in and have a free lunch, and the lunch must be eaten on site. Adults are able to eat for a minimal fee. All expenses from the program will be covered from the proceeds that the school district receives from government reimbursements.

Other communities, such as Mason City, have been participating in this program.

The Summer Food Service Program, administered by the Iowa Department of Education, provides nutritious meals and snacks to children in low-income areas during the summer months. There are many summer food service program feedings sites across the state of Iowa, however the program is still vastly under-utilized. The biggest barrier to children participating in the Summer Food Service Program is knowledge that feedings sites exist.

“We don’t say to the rich ‘Give to the poor’, we say ‘American people, help each other’. Rich or poor, each one must help thinking, there’s someone even poorer than I am, and I want to help them as a fellow American.

So unnecessary and such a waste of resources that could be better spent elsewhere.

“free lunch”? Really? The food was free? The taxpayer did not pay for the food, the employees, the building?
Its free for those that use it, its not for those of us who pay for it!!
