FOREST CITY, IOWA – A Winnebago county deputy has announced he is running for the top seat – sheriff.
Steve Hepperly seeks to replace Dave Peterson as sheriff in Winnebago county. Sheriff Peterson – elected in 2012 – is also a former Winnebago County deputy and also worked as a Forest City police officer. Deputy Hepperly has been a volunteer fireman since 1993, he says.
Mr. Hepperly’s statement:
I have served the citizens of Winnebago County for 24 years, and I am asking for your support in electing me as your Sheriff in November 2016!
Change is inevitable. This is true in law enforcement, as it is in everyday life. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is on the cusp of many changes with the recent passing of a new public safety center and jail. Law enforcement, and the types of crimes encountered, are also ever-evolving.
As your Sheriff, I will bring a new vision, energy, and a positive mindset back to our department. I will seek cost-effective training opportunities for our staff to keep current with changing crime trends, while maintaining a fiscally sound budget. An educated department is an effective department. I will make the Sheriff’s office more accessible to the public through social media and an interactive department website. In a cooperative effort between the public and the Sheriff’s office, we can make our community a safer and better place to raise a family.
As your Sheriff, I will re-evaluate staffing and duties performed to utilize our staff most effectively.
Lastly, I will strive to make the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office a viable and effective asset that Winnebago County citizens can be proud of.
