MASON CITY – Driving drunk to the sheriff’s office to bail out a jailbird turned out to be a bad idea for a Mason City woman and her companion.
A Cerro Gordo deputy stopped a vehicle at the Cerro Gordo Law Enforcement Complex on Sunday evening, Novemebr 15, 2015 before 9 PM. After an investigation, two people were arrested. Destiny Renee Bates, age 23, was charged with first offense operating while intoxicated. Nicholas Jon Wilmarth, age 27, was charged with public intoxication. Both were jailed and then released pending a court date.
“They were posting another person’s bond that was in jail,” Sheriff Kevin Pals told NIT when asked to describe what happened.
Today, Bates pleaded guilty to first offense operating while intoxicated. She was immediately taken to jail for two days and ordered to pay $1,827.50 in fines and court fees. Wilmarth pleaded guilty back in November and was ordered to pay $195.00 in fines and court fees.
