CLEAR LAKE, IOWA – A Clear Lake woman was stopped and arrested for drunk driving late Tuesday night.
A Cerro Gordo deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Tuesday evening, January 19 at about 11:52 PM at the 900 block of 6th Avenue South. After an investigation, the driver, 42-year-old Robyn Lynn Copney was arrested for second offense operating while intoxicated.
Copney was arrested and charged in 2007 by the Cerro Gordo sheriff’s office for first offense operating while intoxicated. Court records show part of her guilty plea involved counseling at Prairie Ridge addiction treatment facility.

Well I guess they will hire anyone with a record and in the meantime those with out a record go without jobs. Also just the place for her, being around cars with lots of keys and little supervision.
This isn’t the 80’s where police tell you to dump out your drink and go home. People have to be smarter than that. Get a DD or call someone for a ride home. 1st offense is not good and 2nd offense is even worse. Going to cost this woman $5,000 plus in the end plus losing her license for how long? 1st offense is 6 months….am assuming 2nd offense is at least 1 year? Tack on SR-22 Insurance and that adds up to one costly night out. I would agree that a 1st offense could happen to quite a few of us but a 2nd offense borders either on stupidity or indicates a problem with alcohol.

Funny how when it is a good looking person everyone is all supportive of the person but if this was a not so pretty girl everyone would be calling her a disgrace, an alcoholic and a drunk for being charged with her 2nd D.U.I.

The hypocrisy of alcohol. The simple reality is 2 drinks and you’re at or over the legal limit. Defeats the purpose of going out.

Yawn…I get tired of trying to educate you. So u get all gussied up and go out in the snow and ice to enjoy an evening, and you order a drink. You drink it and begin to feel better. The bartender or waitress asks you if you’d like another. You say yes. Now you’re done. After that 2nd drink you’re supposed to end the night and go home. That’s what the lawmakers expect you to do.

TAKE A LOOK AROUND. Alcohol is everywhere…on the TV, in magazines, billboards, grocery stores.
It’s use causes ILLNESS. It is a legal poison. It’s the only product on the market where if you USE IT AS INTENDED…it will cause you sickness and force you into an illegal status. MILLIONS of Americans are drunk at any given moment across the country…whether they are driving or not. Law enforcement selects only a few to make money off of. The state taxes liquor industry and consumers…plus takes in money from offenders. It’s a SCAM industry that punishes humans for participating / falling 4 its advertisement.

Sorry Mark but it couldn’t just happen to anyone. It does not happen to responsible people, especially twice. Drinking and driving is dangerous to yourself and to the public. Responsible people find a ride, take a taxi or walk, they do not drive intoxicated and endanger others.

I know several people who have had to take this course. They force anyone convicted of a D.U.I. to take a class at Prairie Ridge. They all sleep through the course. It serves no purposed except to run up the bill.
I agree LVS, the class does no good and is mandatory. I am not sure why this woman was singled out to do a story on when I don’t see that she did any damage to anyone, guess we don’t know the whole story. I have always said though, “Nothing good happens after midnight,” guess I have to amend that to 11:52 as in this case.
@John-I think the time is more like 10:30 PM. If you are driving after that they will make up a reason to stop you and check you out. It has gotten way out of hand. They are making criminals out of otherwise honest people. When they lose their license they lose their way to work and become welfare baby’s. Most people just do not have the the money to pay the fines so they drive without a license or insurance and just compound the problem.

Wow LVS, You of all people. Driving while intoxicated is agents the law. This is her 2nd offence, does she have to kill somebody before you consider it criminal? Everyone makes mistakes but if you didn’t learn from your first drunk driving arrest then your 2nd drunk driving is more than a just a mistake.
