Mason City police investigating disappearance of possibly “despondent” man

missingMASON CITY – A Mason City man has been reported missing to police.

There was very little information available on this missing person, listed as 29-year-old Benjamin A. Ottwsen. Mr. Ottesen was reported missing to the Mason City police department, in Mason City on January 15, 2016.

According to Mason City police:

Benjamin Ottesen is 29 years old, 6’2”, approx. 200 lbs, white male, with light brown hair, and blue eyes. He may be wearing glasses and lives in Mason City. On Jan 16, 2016, at 4:50 pm, a friend went to his apt located on the east side of Mason City and discovered some concerning notes that Ben had apparently left. The notes suggest that he may be despondent and that he left voluntarily. He was last seen and heard from on Jan 15 in Forest City, IA. There has been no further contact with friends, family, or employer.

Ben’s car is also gone. The car is a 2011 darker gray Subaru Outback 2.5i. It may have Iowa license plates DTF 596 on it.

Ben has been entered into NCIC as a missing person due to his apparent despondent behavior and notes. Ben did not grow up in Mason City and may have driven to other possible destinations in Iowa. Anyone with info on Ben’s whereabouts is asked to report this info to local law enforcement. MCPD investigators are working this case.
