FORT MADISON, IOWA – Robert Lee Kern, an inmate assigned to the Iowa State Penitentiary, died Saturday, January 16, 2016, in the Penitentiary Medical Care Unit.
Kern died of natural causes from Malignant Melanoma.
Kern was 69 years old and serving a life sentence from Cedar County for First Degree Murder. This sentence began on November 6, 1979.
