CLEAR LAKE – A Garner woman stands accused of stealing thousands of dollars from at least 15 disabled residents at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake while she worked there, but says she’s not guilty.
Amy Palmer, age 41, was charged by Clear Lake police on November 24, 2015 with 15 counts of felony D dependent adult abuse and one count of felony B ongoing criminal conduct. She was arrested the next day on a warrant by a Cerro Gordo deputy, taken to jail and held on $50,000.00 bond, which she posted a few days later.
Allegedly, Palmer worked at Opportunity Village between 2014 and 2015 and stole $8,782.34 from the bank accounts of her victims – persons she was hired to care for. She allegedly tried to hide her deeds by altering records.
On January 13, Palmer and her attorney, Timothy Lapointe, entered a not guilty plea. She remains free as she awaits a trial date.

Should be mandatory minimum sentence, fine and prison, no plea bargain for theft of dependent adult victims!

I work in long term care and no you are not allowed to take pictures of the residents. The employees cannot have their phones in resident areas,. This picture is clearly an example of what is not allowed.
I understand that Federal Confidentiality Laws – HIPPA ….. makes it a criminal offense to disclose any information about persons receiving health care. Thanks for your insight, appears to reinforce what I have heard. This picture probably needs to go and go fast!
