Convicted thief flees Walmart in getaway car

MASON CITY – A man previously banned from Walmart went back to the store, tried to steal merchandise and fled the store in a waiting getaway car before cops caught him.

Police tell NIT that on January 27, 2015, Cole Arthur Pearce was notified that he was banned from Walmart by employees following an un-described incident there. No criminal charges filed at that time.

Then, on January 9, 2016, Pearce was confronted by Walmart employees who attempted to detain him for shoplifting a tablet and gaming accessories. Pearce ran from the employees and jumped into a waiting vehicle that drove him away.

Not long after, police were able to locate and arrest Pearce at 305 5th Street NW on a valid arrest warrant for fourth-degree theft in connection to a different case. Pearce was also charged with third-degree theft and trespass from the incident at Walmart on January 9. Pearce is accused of stealing a tablet and gaming accessories valued at $201 from Walmart that day. Because he has prior theft convictions, the charge was enhanced to third-degree theft. He remains jailed as he awaits a court hearing later this week.

Pearce was convicted of theft back in 2010 after being accused of a felony. He pled guilty to a lesser charge. He also has numerous drug convictions.
