Fertile man pleads guilty to sex assault; kicked off fire department

MASON CITY – A North Iowa man and former firefighter who faced two counts of sexual assault involving a teen victim has entered a guilty plea and awaits sentencing.

The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office announced the arrest of 31-year-old Kyle Poush of Fertile back on October 21, 2015. Poush was arrested after deputies conducted search warrants in connection to alleged sexual assaults. Poush was charged with two counts of felony C third degree sexual abuse involving a juvenile female teen. The alleged assaults took place on May 1 and September 1, 2015, court records show.

Poush remained jailed until November 9, when he posted $20,000 bond using an approved cashier’s check. He then pled not guilty. A week prior to his release from jail on bond, city council meeting minutes from Fertile, Iowa reveal “Kyle Poush is no longer on the Fire Department and has been removed from insurance.”

In the latest development in this case, on January 4, 2016, Poush and hs attorney Joel Yunek entered a guilty plea to one count of third-degree sexual abuse. He is now awaiting a court date later this month.
