FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA. – The executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, released the following statement on Tuesday regarding President Barack Obama’s Executive Gun Control Order:
Once again, President Obama has chosen to engage in political rhetoric, instead of offering meaningful solutions to our nation’s pressing problems. Today’s event also represents an ongoing attempt to distract attention away from his lack of a coherent strategy to keep the American people safe from terrorist attack.
The American people do not need more emotional, condescending lectures that are completely devoid of facts. The men and women of the National Rifle Association take a back seat to no one when it comes to keeping our communities safe. But the fact is that President Obama’s proposals would not have prevented any of the horrific events he mentioned. The timing of this announcement, in the eighth and final year of his presidency, demonstrates not only political exploitation but a fundamental lack of seriousness.
The proposed executive actions are ripe for abuse by the Obama Administration, which has made no secret of its contempt for the Second Amendment. The NRA will continue to fight to protect the fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms as guaranteed under our Constitution. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be harassed or intimidated for engaging in lawful, constitutionally-protected activity – nor will we allow them to become scapegoats for President Obama’s failed policies.
I stand behind my postings….There is no “gas” which makes one type of AR rifle more powerful than the other.

@Buzz-I believe that all semi-automatics and automatic rifles are gas operated. The gas is formed by the powder in the bullet exploding and then actuating the gun. Even semi-auto shotguns are gas operated. It has nothing to do with the power of the gun.

After that fiasco, no one here wanted any thing that might ruin the image of the ‘River City’ that Meredith Willson immortalized. “Trouble’ was right here in River City and it starts with P. Pool! The beginning of the end. One of the reasons this town hasn’t grown is that conservative attitude of don’t try something new. We need to stay the same. I am not in favor of this new arena downtown and some might see that is a conservative attitude. Maybe it is but I would never think of this city council and mayor as being ‘liberal. They are conservative as it gets except when spending OPM on things that they say will benefit MC when it really monetarily benefits a small core of behind the scenes movers and shakers. The hope is that it will trickle down to the rest of us but I am doubtful that many of us will see the benefit. Ronnie Reagan showed us that trickle down economics doesn’t work for anyone but the rich. And the rich in MC tend to be old money conservatives. You are just blowing smoke.

first of all asswipe, i was living in arizon when my unit was activated so i had to come back. As soon as we got back i went back to arizona. I was offered a promotion in rank when we were activated but i turned it down because I knew that when we got home i was going back to arizona so i told them to give it to someone that was going to stay in the unit,plus i didn’t want to be taken off the road. You have this hatred for me so you took maybe half a conversation and made up the rest. i can understand the hatred though, most liberals have it for those that are better than them.

There is a huge difference. I use the same name every time and it is registered with NIT. When I post you know it is me. I have always used my initials which is a hell of a lot different than using the same name 25 other people use.

I served 6 1/2 years active duty military.

This is why we have the rule of law. The laws don’t always make sense or work out as they should, but there is a process to work out the kinks. 1. The legislature. 2. The courts, 3. The court of public opinion. When it comes to guns and alleged mental illness, the facts are often shaded by the lies. 2 or more people can team up against anyone and have them held for 72 hour hold. OK, I read the article (carefully, as directed) and no where in the article did I see mentioned, the NRA wanted everyone to be armed. They do mention; “The NRA will continue to fight to protect the fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms as guaranteed under our Constitution.” And for that, I see nothing wrong, even while reading it carefully.
If you read carefully, you see that the NRA has no plan in place to protect the American public. Their plan is to arm everyone. And let the chips fall where they may.

I don’t see a plan by the NRA to stop all these assaults. They seem to believe that if people are armed, then no assaults will happen. Besides the fact that the NRA is right wing, and anything that our President does is contrary to right wingers. So, if the NRA doesn’t want to arm everyone, what is their plan? Do they have one? Or are they just like the Republicans in Congress who dislike everything our President does, and try their hardest to make his time in office as difficult as they can. I’m a current member of NRA….have been for 3 years now. They are necessary, and while I don’t agree with the free trade of guns at gun shows or online, I will support the free trade of guns until the Federal and State Governments get the math worked out correctly on who should or shouldn’t have a gun.
Allowing a new Syrian citizen (who just came from an ISIS controlled warzone), who has no criminal record or “mental health” record to speak of the ability to buy a high powered AR-15 assault rifle, while denying a natural born citizen the right to buy the same gun because he had some trouble with a girlfriend 15 years ago, or because he had some mental health issues 20 years ago is pure bullshit.
These new immigrant citizens have the luxury of time and no accounting and using strict criteria like background records is inaccurate to understanding who a person is or isn’t. The same Syrian man who lived in the United States for 20 years and was arrested for beating his wife into submission (as Sharia prescribes) would be in the same boat as the local Iowa guy…it’s just that Syria doesn’t have the same standards for jurisprudence as Iowa does.
So how are they going to deal with that?
