How the other half lives: Party at Clear Lake Outing Club

Clear Lake Outing Club, where the parties rage
Clear Lake Outing Club, where the parties rage

CLEAR LAKE – Rich. Elite. Elected.  Local.  They know how to party, too, NIT is finding out.

The list of people in attendance at a summer party at the Clear Lake Outing Club who are not millionaires is much shorter than the list who are millionaires.  Now, sources are telling NIT that that these folks partied it up this summer and some got so inebriated one weekend they had to bum rides home.

The party, our source said, was held June 6 at the Clear Lake Outing Club.  Dinner was served that night to about 150 bankers, Chamber members, elected officials and Outting Club Cottage owners.  It should be noted that only special people can own a cottage there.  The place is only for the elite, and their hand-picked guests.  You can’t have a mortgage on your cottage, and hiring a realtor is forbidden.  As described to NIT, Outing Clubbers don’t want “certain kinds” of people living there, and some snooty members will make a point of confronting neighbors if they bring the wrong kind of guests.

Now, dinner was served that Saturday night, and the Outing Club members could invite their guests.  NIT is told not everyone was impressed with some of the folks that were invited, because they either didn’t make enough money or weren’t “dressed right”.

As dinner wound down, the dining room began to empty out.  This dining room is situated roughly in the middle of the Outing Club itself, surrounded on each side with cottages.  A long hallway “porch” leads you from the dining room to the doors of each cottage, which has its now little mini porch area.  An excellent view of Clear Lake is available from each porch.

Each cottage had its doors open and a little party developed at each; folks could take their drinks with them and hob-nob and socialize, making the rounds to each cottage.  There was plenty of alcohol to go around, NIT is told, and some didn’t hesitate to partake.  This went on until 3:30 AM and beyond at some of the cottages.

We reached long-time Outing Club member and resident Todd Blodgett and he refused comment, but he did acknowledge he was at the party.  He would not comment on whether any elected officials at the party had too much to drink and whether they had trouble getting home.

The Outing Club is “home” to the residents. Who they choose to allow into their “home” is their business. Just as who you allow in your yard and home is your business. They have kids there and I understand why they would be leery of strangers hanging out in “their” yard.Sheesh go bother someone else newsworthy.

It seems to me the people who drank too much and were smart enough to get safe rides home should be applauded and not denigrated.

How dare you question the almighty editor! These people are way to rich to be anything but evil.

After reading a few comments its is rather obvious that posters are baiting each other and know about as much as me about what goes on in the outing club. But one comment got my attention. If Todd is a felon and committed a felony how is he permitted to carry a concealed weapon. Granted you can get clemency from the gov. But if he doesn’t have that piece of paper wouldn’t he be looking at 5 yrs in. prison. Also I’ll bet almost everybody on her knows somebody or has a family member that is addict to a substance. You probably know a dealer to. If Todd has his addiction under control great for him and his family. What goes on at the club probably effects no one on this board. Sounds like a lot of jealous people. .

@ Bernie, no Mr. Blodgett is not a felon, I do know this. I was up to Rumorz a couple years ago when the CLPD came to the bar after Todd got robbed by them two Carney’s. I seen a cop asked Blodgett if he was legal able to carry his gun. Blodgett pulls out his wallet he takes out his permit, the cop hands it right back to him, he says ok were good, sir. If Todd is a felon he would not of had that piece of paper, it let’s him carry. I have heard tho when his dad was a Judge in Washington DC, Dr. Blodgett, he used his political pull to get alot of the records espunged so maybe could of been how Todd is not a felon. This I do not know, for sure anyways.

I remember when that happen, yes. Wish Blodgett would of shot them scum’s dead. He could of told the cops he fear for his life, dead thief’s don’t talk. Was glad to see he got his money back them Carney’s stole of his.

Another middle schoolish take on the elite by NIT. Who cares if folks got drunk and used a designated driver? Sounds like 8th grade lunchtable talk. Plenty of ways to slam the elite, but this isn’t one of them. If anything, it discredits NIT’s criticism of real issues.

Right here in Music City! Sheeesh.

@ Rambo, your right this is like 8 grade lunch table gossippy girl’s. I do not think them that hate’s on Todd here knows him at all. I do know him, he is a honest smart dude, funny as hell to. They would not of said some these things if they did. Todd he helped my ex get clean off drugs. He I don’t think smoke no crack for maybe 5 year’s or better. We seen him up to Birdsalls just before he left off to Texas.

My post was not a defense of Todd, or anyone else, just a critique of the article.

Eight grade lunch table gossip critique indeed……expressed by a 4th grade command of the English language. Brilliant!

@ Happy Drug girl: you must be too ignorant to understand that Bob the Builder was appalled at your dismal ability to express yourself. NIACC offers remedial English courses, and I suggest you enroll in one. Also, your defense of your fellow drug addict Mr. Blodgett shows you aren’t very bright. Toddy boy is nothing but a spoiled, trigger-happy, entitled Fascist who was only at this party because of money that he did not earn. If not for his family of arrogant, rich Republitards, Todd Blodgett would not have stood a chance of ever setting foot inside the Outing Club, even as a guest.

Okay I will admit upfront right here, Todd and me are friends, met the man about 5 year’s ago. Some of you, you hate on him something terrible. I do not think you know him at all. He is one of the smartest guys I have known in my whole life, he is also really funny to, and I do not know nobody that is more honest then Todd. No, I am not Republican, we are a Union family. This is my opinion of Blodgett, but all you haters just keep hating on him. I do know he does not give a rats, so your wasting your hate.

Respectfully disagree. Know all the Blodgetts well, since the early 70’s. Good people. Tood is one of the most honest, upfront individuals I have ever met.

Agree 100%.

This is some funny stuff right here. The only thing factual I learned however is that petty jealousy is alive and well in NitWitville, and this blog is having trouble finding viable news stories.

@ Anonymous, there’s a “factual thing” you missed. This would be the fact that nearly all the comments defending Blodgett are from barely literate bloggers. Not that it’s any surprise to see that Toddy boy’s fans and friends are stupid, tattoo-obsessed rednecks, who probably smoke pot, crack and meth, and are lucky if they have six teeth. These low-life Republitards really stick together.

This sounded like a fun party…wish I would have been there…life is too short people, get over it!

I was there Jan. It was a wonderful party. Nothing like what was described in this story, but pretty fun nonetheless.

Are suggesting that the story was sensationalized? Would Matt do such a thing? Journalists report the news without bias.

Who wrote this article? Is this some kind of tabloid nonsense about the rich and not so famous of Clear Lake? How about an article about the local nut job in Clear Lake? The guy who cries about motorcycles, and tourists, attends the council meetings to complain about basically nothing, and creeps people out at the local coffee shop. The guy who believes that illegal drugs should be legal. And who thinks the government and everyone owes him something. At least the people in this article work, or are retired from their jobs and pay taxes. So why pick on them?

Who cares how they party, I’m not rich nor famous but I sures hell wish I would have been there. It’s kind of fun to watch these type of guys get f**ked up, boy do they get goofy and the women get kind of frisky. Makes a lot of fun.. Next time put me on the list. Bookie

So what if Todd made mistakes in the past. I’m sure a lot of you have made mistakes also. Todd rose above his issues, is clean and a pretty nice guy. I don’t understand why people bash on him so bad. Because he has money? He isn’t a snob, he doesn’t look at himself as being better than anyone else. He’s smart and educated. He’s still very close to friends that he went to school with. It seems there’s some that are just envious of him.

@ real name, well I say Amen to that. Todd was one of the first one’s I met when I started going to N. A. meeting’s, this was 6, 7 years ago. Anyways he is always nice he is honest people, I do know. Very deticated to our program to. Todd helps alot of us in our recovery’s he don’t judge nobody like some you on here do, he is a good guy. My two cents.

Excellent grammar.

Thank you Bob, your sweet.

@ CLTE: I am personally acquainted with the lawyer you are talking about. Most of us who know him have always wondered how he has ever managed to keep the Outing Club account for so long. Is your contempt for the politics of the Blodgett family so bad that you won’t even consider the possibility that they may just be right about this? I am not a Republican, by the way, and I never voted for Dr. Blodgett, and I think Todd Blodgett’s political views are about 150 years behind the times. But the lawyer who represents the Outing Club is known around north Iowa for being late in paying his personal bills, and he no longer has a law office in downtown. He now offices from his home, has no full time secretary, and hasn’t had one for years. As a practicing attorney, I can well understand why the Outing Club membership would terminate him. I will say that in my professional opinion, it is likely that many Outing club owners have probably wanted him out as their corporate representative for some time. Apparently, however, no one was willing to push him, until recently. I think you are incorrect in claiming that Todd Blodgett is the club president. He may be on the club’s board of directors, but I do not believe that Mr. Blodgett is the president. I may be wrong.

Very, very true about this guy.

I hear he inherit his place there, his daddy was a rich doc in Mason. That is how he got the job.

I hear theres a apple tree that needs a hug Question.

All of you who don’t like the folks who live there because they are ‘snooty’, are doing exactly what you accuse them of doing – judging you by your job, clothes, or paycheck.

A lady we know is good friends with the man who does legal work for the Outing Club. She told us Blodgett is the president of the Outing Club, and Toddy boy and Big daddy Dr Gary, and Toddy’s mama, are going to fire this lawyer, that’s her friend. She said this is suppose to happen very soon. But the lawyer says he will quit before the Blodgett’s can get rid of him. Our friend, she told my wife that this attorney, he would like to sue Todd and Gary, but he is afraid Toddy boy would pay some out of state skin heads to roll in and stomp him.

@ C L Tire … Skinheads? Why would this entitled, right-wing, cocaine-fueled lunatic need to hire any out-of-state racists to rough up anyone? From what I have heard, Toddy boy is on a first-name basis with half the drug dealers, junkies, and wife-beaters in Mason City’s north end. I know for a fact he visits people he knows who are locked up in our county Jail when he’s back here. I would not put it past this spoiled, little neo-Nazi profiteer to stoop so low. This is because he is a thug, too, for all intents and purposes. If it weren’t for his family’s money, status, and high-end connections, Todd Blodgett would probably be in prison. Or better yet, dead.

From what you have “heard”??? So, is what you’re really saying…you don’t have any real facts about anything, you’re just going on hear-say? And your statement “Or better yet, dead.” That just shows how brilliant you really are. What a piece of work.

Thanks Buzz. You busted another wanna be know it all.

@Buzz-Isn’t that Retarded NIACC a real piece of work? Wouldn’t you like someone like that teaching your children in college. It is no wonder we have the problems we have today with someone like that in our college’s. I hope Blodgett finds out who this guy is and sues the crap out of him for defamation.

So Larry the name caller wants someone sued over defamation. THAT’S funny.

You are the one is is funny. I have never called anyone but P.L. by name and he brought it on himself. Grow up.

I said you are a name caller not someone who calls people by name. You generally bring nothing to the conversation and most of your posts can effectively be replaced by “Isn’t that person stupid?”.

You people here, that hates on Todd your sick. Todd don’t do drugs now, he a tone for his drugging day’s he is clean off it. I do know him, he put down his crack pipe long time ago. So who cares if he has guns, he told me he got muged so he carry’s this is what I would do to if I could. Leave Mr Blogett be. I am a greatful recovering addict my self, it is mean to hate. Go to hell.

“It is mean to hate. Go to Hell”, writes a Blodgett defender. It’s astonishing how so many of Toddy boy’s Republitard fans on this website are barely literate, and are unaware of their double standards. But then, their gun-totin’, crack-snortin’, money-laundering, neo-Nazi friend is the same way, so it makes sense.

I rarely agree with Mr. Blodgett’s columns in the Globe-Regret, but some of you people really need to get a life. What drives you to pile on this guy? Has he offended you, or caused you trouble? From what I have heard, Mr. Blodgett overcame his drug addiction and is an honest man who leaves no doubt as to where he stands on just about everything. Is there something wrong with that? Too bad more people aren’t this way, if you ask me. Todd spoke to our Rotary club last September, but I wasn’t there that day for his speech. But everyone who was told me it was one of the best presentations we have ever hosted. Enough is enough, people.

@ Dean, who give’s a rat’s if Todd Blodgett invites people up to this place them that has tattooes smokes, drinks, & what ever. Its a private club, okay? Them that owns there, they can have who they want. I think its funny to get them rich uppity’s all pissed if Blodgett does have over them they look down on. If the snoot’s get all pissed off, ok well are they man enough to tell Blodgett it to his face? I would say its not very likely.

Hard up for stuff to write and complain about?

I’m sure P.L. has never been invited there. He is needy and we’ll beneath these people. And Todd may feel about him the same way the entire Clear Lake community feels about him. He’s the local nut case.

@ real, do you mean Pete Laggios? If that is the one your talking about I think your right.

That is who P.L. would be. The people in the community of Clear Lake do not think very fondly of him.

@ Anonymous, you are right. Most the Outing Club people are snobby as hell, from the get-go. Most amazing thing is, of all the people lives there, the least snobby owner is believe it or not, Todd Blodgett. I know, most the bloggers here hate on Blodgett, his drugs, guns, politics and ect. He takes shit from them that live at that place on count of him bringing over people they can’t stand the site of. But I do know Blodgett is the only one there brings over what I say are regular people, that is true. My 2 cent’s. Ok, over & out now. Have a cock tail.

Keep your UGLY COMMENTS in MASON. We LIKE the Outing Club. They are part of our history. It’s private property and none of your business. They all get along and are happy. Don’t be trying to make something ugly in Clear Lake out of nothing. Keep your cheap tricks in MC. Thanks.

that was for whoever wrote that piece.

Exactly, we love the Outing Club, it is rich in a history of well to do people having a place to call their own and escape the day to day grind. We are successful folks who have rightly inherited the hard work of our ancestors. Please keep your dirty comments to yourself and do not sully the good name of the outing club.

@ Rich O, maybe your right on some of what you say, these Outing Club members, the one’s I have met are real snooty. Thats right. But I say your wrong saying Blodgett takes shit from any over that place on count of them he brings. For a guest I mean. Oh I am sure alot of them snobs do not like TB bringing over some his buddys, there, okay. But I do know Todd, he would be right in their face’s if anybody flipped him any shit over something like what you say.

I am an “Outing Clubber.” We are not all bad, we just like to indulge in the finer things in life, but that does not mean we are snobs. In fact I can recall many a night we invited the less well to do neighbors over for hors devours and hot toddys, it felt good to give back to needy folks. Please don’t paint us all with the same brush. Thank you.

SERIOUSLY??? Just because the “less well to do neighbors” don’t have as much money as yourself makes them “needy”? You need to be knocked off that high horse you’re riding!! If you wanna give back to the needy- volunteer your time actually HELPING someone in need instead of feed your fake ego… People like you make me sick

You jumped to a few conclusions there in your comment. Haven’t you ever noticed that doing that often leaves you on the wrong side of the facts?

And you Summer Lake are full of shit. Tell us a few less known facts about the inside of the OC to prove you are not a fake.

Excuse me, Busted Hyman. You would like a few less known facts about an elite club that you are not a member of. You are not privy to that information. Only the upper crust of society can claim membership. You will have to one day hope for an invite from one of your successful counterparts.

Thank you for you well wishes however before you feel too much pitty for me and other less fortunate others just know that I have enjoyed lunch there as an invited guest several times over the past few summers. Your comments are not reflective of the members of the OC and you have yet to convince me of your authenticity.

Go bust your own hymen.

If you are not convinced, it is no concern of mine. You may have been an invited guest, but you will never be a true “Outing Clubber,” that is only for the top tier. Please don’t speak of that which you do not know.

LOL!

Our granddaughter use to waitress there, she told us Todd Blodgett was always getting the members upset on count of the low life’s he brought there to party, and eat in that fancy Dining Room. Some of Toddy Boy’s friends had tattoo’s, they smoked, got drunk, ect. The members there, they don’t like that.

@ Dean, only a low-life like Toddy Boy associates with drunk, tattooed smokers. It would not surprise me if he brings drug dealers over there. The types who probably ride their Harleys in to the club’s parking lot, and pack pistols and switchblades in their boots.

So, I and my wife, we are low-life because we ride Harleys and smoke Marlboro Red’s and I have a tattoo. Your crazy, Laker Beotch.

I have tattoos, doesn’t make me a bad person.

Was this a fund raiser for Bernie?

Fundraiser for Bernie? At the Outing Club, yeah right. No way in Hell, Anonymous. The Secret Service I will bet they would never let Bernie Sanders step foot in that place, because Toddy Boy. Blodgett, he packs heat, Todd would just love to get a clean shot at Bernie I bet. LOL, hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make all the excuse’s you want, Todd Blodgett deserve to be in prison. He is a felon, he is a druggy crack head, he carrys a gun, he is a Nazi, he is a spoiled brat and a republitard drunk to boot. To bad they can’t kick his republitard butt out, I am thinking yes.

Since the beginning, this place has been a bastion of Old Money Republicans. They were the movers and shakers who left their “cottages” to sons, daughters and grand kids. Bernie would have no place there whatsoever………. just to set the story right in political terms. As for parties, they know how to have fun (wink)

Top notch reporting here Matt

Alot goes on at this old place, deal’s get cut there, and its chock full of filthy rich drunk’s always has been. Snobby old fire trap if you ask me.

@ Suzy Q … Do you mean drug deals between Mr. Blodgett and purveyors of Crystal Meth? Or is Toddy boy back on crack?

Hey retarded Niacc his name is not Toddy, its Todd. He is not no boy, he is a grown man about 50. Also, retarded, he don’t smoke crack no more. He give that up alot of year’s back. Your dumb real dumb. Yes in case your wandering, I do know him. Go away.

Wow.
Your grammar & spelling is atrocious and yet you call someone else dumb.

Are you his slave?

@ Questions, speaking of slaves, it is a probable that Toddy boy and his rich Republitard Daddy-O wish that Lincoln had never freed them. Today’s Republitards are in total synch with Blodgett-style right-wing, fascism. They are not Abe Lincoln’s party anymore.

You bleeding heart Democrats are ruining this country. Why don’t you go hug a tree, you hippie.

What is the point of this article? Party’s go on all the time in the summer time.

They are truly the upper crust and deserve the best life has to offer.

So rich people had a party, and some had to find a ride home? Guess I don’t know what the problem is.
