CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man faces charges after he crashed and totaled his car while he was allegedly drunk.
According to the Charles City police department, on December 20 at about 2:22 AM, officers responded to the 400 block of 13th Avenue to investigate a report of a single-vehicle accident. At the scene, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am has incurred serious damage. Allegedly, the driver, 22-year-old Nathan Deleeuw of Charles City, was eastbound on 13th Avenue when he swerved to miss a deer and struck a guide wire to a utility pole. The car then struck the utility pole and came to rest in the street. Police say the vehicle was a total loss.
After an investigation, Deleeuw was arrested for second offense operating while intoxicated and possession of a firearm while under the influence, an aggravated misdemeanor. He will face a hearing on January 8.
