SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA – Robert Downey Jr. – a huge Hollywood star – was granted a pardon today by the governor of California.
Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced that he has granted 91 pardons – and Robert Downey Jr. was on the list.
The individuals granted pardons all completed their sentences and have been released from custody for more than a decade without further criminal activity. All applicants for a pardon who were eligible obtained a Certificate of Rehabilitation, which is an order from a superior court declaring that a person convicted of a crime is now rehabilitated. A gubernatorial pardon may be granted to people who have demonstrated exemplary behavior and have lived productive and law-abiding lives following their conviction. Pardons are not granted unless they are earned, the governor’s office explained in a statement.
Downey Jr. – the star of the “Iron Man” and “Avenger” movies, along with many others – went to prison years ago for drug convictions. One ehe got out of prison, his star rose quickly and now he’s one of the top male actors in Hollywood.
