CLEAR LAKE – The Clear Lake School board voted unanimously Wednesday evening to part ways with School Superintendent Anita Micich.
Sources reported the development to NIT Wednesday evening, saying “They voted to get their own superintendent for next school year.”
A sharing agreement between Mason City and Clear Lake was paying dividends with extra state funds, but that program has run its course, NIT is told. Clear Lake has for some time sought to have leadership more accessible. Some in Clear Lake feel they do not get the attention and/or leadership they need from the superintendent.
A year ago at this time, Mason City school board narrowly approved keeping Dr. Micich. A 3-3 tie vote kept her on board in Mason City.
In May of 2014, Micich was called on the carpet during a public hearing in Clear Lake to defend the sharing agreement with Mason City. Some parents – as well as a current city council member and former educator – in attendance voiced serious reservations about continuing the sharing of the superintendent with Mason City.
Her full compensation between the school districts amounts to over $200,000 per year.
she gets almost $200,00 plus perks, the governor of Iowa only gets $140,000 to take care of the whole state, now who has a more important job??
Don’t forget the governor gets 50k for a pension every year, from when he held the office before.
Public education has become a gigantic money pit. Administrators get theirs first. Then teachers. When IPERS is considered, public educators are very, very handsomely paid. Outrageous salaries. And all they do is bitch for more.
I hope she takes the Clear Lake job just top get rid of her here in Mason City. Not impressed with what she has done Mason City and she is way overpaid. Get rid of her post her job at about 50,000 a year and you would get qualified candidates that actually would live in the town they work.
Your crazy 50k? Nobody in their right mind would do that for 50k.
Quotes from CL board: They want her to apply for CL board full time. So this was not about getting rid of her, they want her full time and not to share any longer.
Let them have her.
You seem to suggest that Dr. Micich would apply for the CL Sup. position full-time. You do realize this would be a huge pay cut for her. She has already tried to get a job in the Omaha area. She is not looking to get paid less than half of what she already makes. So, in essence, the CLCSB will open the job up to any applicants who apply and then pick from that pool. Big stretch to imagine she would even consider doing this.
Really, the only way I can see Dr. Micich applying for the CL opening is if Mason City moves on, quickly, from her – and this is not impossible to imagine, as I believe our board is looking to make a change – and then Dr. Micich has no other similar positions come available to her (where she makes in the neighborhood of $200,000 a year plus perks). The Clear Lake job would be like a last resort for her, in my opinion, until something bigger comes along.
How much money does she need? She is already going to make more money than most can spend in a life time retired? Ipers, Iras, etc. The big question is why work at all?
Greed knows no limit.
government education is about 1 thing, how many dollars they can collect and spend! results don’t matter
Shop around – titles does’nt mean they have common sense – they are double priced anyway compared to the private sector.
most people don’t know that her residence is in des moines, she just rents a apartment here, so that means taxpayer dollars pays that big salary and she isn’t a taxpayer!!!!!
Actually I think that’s common knowledge
clear lake “got smart” now its mason citys time, hope they don’t wait to long
