CHARLES CITY – You’re sitting peacefully in your home when the doorbell rings. You get up, go to the door and open it, only to find no one there and shadowy figures giggling and racing away.

That was what was served up to Charles City residents in a quiet neighborhood this weekend – but the culprits got a dose of punishment in return this time.

On the evening of Saturday, December 12 at about 6:46 PM, police were called to the 500 block of 6th Avenue when an unknown number of kids were ringing doorbells and then running away. An officer investigated and was able to locate them.

Instead of an arrest or charges, the kids were made to go to each house they had been to and apologize to the residents.

That is what police used to do and had the respect of the people. Anymore it is all about the money.
