At least 14 dead after mass shooting in California

Police Car LightsSAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA – Over a dozen people are confirmed dead, and multiple suspects were involved in a mass shooting incident Wednesday afternoon in San Bernardino, California.

“The preliminary information we have is 14 dead, 17 wounded. The wounded have been taken to area hospitals,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) said this evening in a statement.

“All of the information is preliminary and may change throughout the course of the investigation. We are all on heighten alert.” People in the area were asked to stay in their homes and lock doors.

The law enforcement agency said that the FBI, ATF, SBPD and ‪SBCSD‬ are all in unified command in this incident. Three people entered a building and began shooting, possibly after a dispute at a social gathering.

Following up on tips led officers to the Redlands area. A pursuit ensued and gunfire was exchanged between officers and the suspects.

Two suspects are confirmed dead. One male and one female. There’s possibly a third suspect involved. The vehicle was cleared of any explosive devices.

Officers have detained a person of interest, the SBCSD also said. In addition, an officer working the active shooter was struck and received non life threatening injuries.

This remains a very active investigation.
