On December 1, 2015, at approximately 6:50 AM, a Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Officer discovered an unresponsive male in his jail cell. Lifesaving efforts were immediately started and the man was transported to Mercy Hospital North Iowa where he was pronounced dead.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was asked to assist in this death investigation. An autopsy is scheduled at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa.
No further information will be released at this time.
Sheriff Kevin Pals did not comment on the incident nor name the inmate, either. NIT won’t name the individual until authorities release his identity.
Hold off on the speculation please. The deceased was a frequent guest at the Gray Bar Hotel. His transgressions were covered in detail here on numerous occasions and his identity has been disclosed. Results of the investigation will be interesting.
This needs to be investigated by a 3rd party that has no affiliation with law enforcement, cops protect cops. Don’t trust any of them. Who polices the police?
