DES MOINES – A Mason City realtor was reprimanded by a state board after engaging in practices it deems harmful or detrimental to the public.
Legal documents delivered to NIT by a concerned citizen show that Lola Vaith – a real estate agent with Century 21 Preferred, 2800 4th Street SW #3 in Mason City – was charged by the Iowa Real Estate Commission in 2014 with violating 5 Iowa codes when she entered a property without proper authorization.
According to these legal documents, which are public record and posted to the internet, Vaith was acting as an agent for potential buyers for the subject property in Mason City, and a showing was scheduled for August 6, 2013, and she met her clients at the property. However, the she was unable to gain entry to the house, and a call to the listing agent went unanswered.
Vaith then “looked around the outside of the house and discovered an unlocked vehicle with a garage door opener; she then used the garage door opener to let herself and her clients into the subject property.”
In a settlement, Vaith admitted to “each and every allegation”, and the case was summed up in one code violation.
Vaith was reprimanded and was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $500. She was also reminded to comply with rules and regulations in the practice of real estate.
