When are we going to hear from Marriott Hotels that a hotel is actually going to be built in the parking lot west of city hall?
City hall and the globe and kimt and the radio station reported 2 years ago, in October of 2013, that ground would be broken in April of 2014 for a hotel. I’m wondering when an actual, real announcement will be made that is not simply conjecture (or the political shenanigans of Eric Bookmeyer)? We are seeing a real hotel construction project happen right before our eyes very quickly in the Hampton / Clarion site; so there is no reason to doubt a company that sees a potential for profit would not act much more quickly than Marriott is in this case. This downtown hotel deal has taken one form or another since 2013. No word from Marriott after being named in this deal for months – and we have taken out $18.75 million in debt now to go ahead. Will Marriott commit to this project now or will they wait until March?
Thanks for your time.

Jeeeezs Cripes who needs a hotel here anyway? And so what people were having lunch. Max is a great guy who wouldn’t want to. A sweet soul no doubt. A real deal for all the people. Bookmeyer needs to read that verse for sure and then watch a Christmas movie on Hallmark to see what a good human being is like and how to behave. All of them should. And all his followers…you know who you are.
@anonymous-The last I heard the hotel occupancy rate here was around 45%. That is breakeven level for the existing hotels.
The announcement was made in October of 2013…..Hmmmm…. Wasn’t that just about a month before the city elections?? Hmmmm….. Naw, just quit that “stinkin thinkin” it only gets you into trouble.
I thought in order for the city to receive the state funds for the beautification project or whatever it was called, I thought there had to be a hotel in the project.
no hotel yet its a phantum mennece not real probly never was no hotel in the first place why does kuhn and bookmaker lie all the time
Hey Matt did you know your buddy Max Weaver was with Alex Kuhn and Mardy Walsh having lunch they was thick as thieves at the Suzie Q laughing about transparency all decked out in suits. You should investigate that I think they were up to something!
No I did not. Email me at northiowatoday@gmail.com and give me the details, please.
What, no Bookmeyer? Guess he couldn’t fit in the door.
*hit the “:report” button by mistake, sorry
The creator of NIT is what journalism is all about. Real stories, that impact real lives! It has been two years, and we haven’t heard word from the actual hotel company!
Amen Matt, ole boozehead has made his living telling lies. On the radio a few days ago he said Mason City was heading in the right direction. Up or down? Down is what I hear and see. My feeling is he is surrounded by people that he can bully and they have to like what he says, laugh at his stupid jokes and make fun of people just as he does. He a joke of a man that lives off his wife. She must like punishment!
To Eric, Mason City’s mayor, I would offer this Bible verse, Proverbs 13:5:
“A righteous man hates lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.”
I, the righteous man in this case, despise liars, misleaders, duplicitous individuals, those who lead double lives, those who would rip-off the people of Mason City, fake resume-building cronies who can’t accomplish anything except for on the backs of each other (if you are reading this and a little pissed-off, you just might be one of them). No secret there; never hid that about myself. NIT was built and designed to root that corruption out, expose it, and to perhaps bring shame to those who deserve it.
You, Eric and those you work with toward these ends, would be part two of this verse; the lying, loathsome, wicked men.
Eric, I ask you. When you sit and surround yourself with the other fakers in your Church on Sunday, asking forgiveness for all the wrongs you commit over and over, do you ever think back to your lies, each one, individually? Do you recall how you lied about this hotel development? Your elaborate scheme to fool the sheep in Mason City for your own political gain?
Shame on you, Eric, for lying about this hotel. Shame on those who let you lie and never stood for the truth. It might – might – get built someday if your tricks are not fully exposed soon, but it is clear everyday when that parking lot is full of cars that you lied two years ago through your hacks in the media about this hotel.
@Matt-the mayor should hang his head in shame for misleading the citizen’s of this city that way. Of all the crooks we have had in that office he is by far the worse.
